I'm still learning to recognize it, TBH; it's been the most common problem for me, I think. But I've posted pics that looked just like that and folks told me it was wetspot/bacterial.
I'm looking back at old pics and the myc was more "spiky" than yours, what I now know to be another indicator of the fungus trying to evade the bacteria. And yours does not show that trait. But mine was on cubes, not pans.
Anyway, what I'm looking at is those glossy spots, especially where there is no mycelia. Anyone else have an opinion on this?
Not trying to call you out or anything Citizen X; I'm really just trying to stop getting that shit on my grains and recognizing it is a big part of the fight.

Oh for sure no problem. I want to show you one grain that didn’t come out of the jar.
Id doesn’t look like mycelium. It looks like a fuzz ball

Hey folks, so I managed to get a batch of 6 popcorn jars prepped and nocced up 5 days ago. I used half a plate of agar per jar. Here are the pics. I'm a bit worried the growth is really slow, especially on the first three.
I think I royally fucked up the first one because when i checked on it the agar wedge was somehow stuck to the glass above the popcorn however I do see some kernels with wispy white growth and one or two of them are greenish/bluish Anyway here are my pics, any feedback on how they look is appreciated.

My pan cambo seemed to slow down when it went to oats. Shit was fast as hell on ME agar, but not as fast on oats.

I have Pan trop doing very well on LMEA. I also have Pan bi on the same doing poorly, from what I can tell, with an inexperienced eye for that particular species.

I have been using mostly LME for pan cyan and have had better results with using 10g agar to 5g LME to ~500 ml water. Using my regular recipe I get alot fluffier growth

My pan tropicals grow slow and dont look very well on MEA but ive never found another agar they like. This Is a proven fifth generation clone on MEA

Universe Unknown, my understanding is that even after being cooked for a while the outer shell of popcorn still stays pretty hard so it may take longer for the mycelium to gain a foothold. you may want to look into using some other grains for spawn as popcorn is considered one of the least advantageous grains for cultivation.
mushboy, i've had issues with pan tropicalis on MEA too but i've gotten good results with BRF agar. it kind of sucks though because you can't see through it and the little bits of grain can make the surface uneven but the mycelium seems to love it.

yeah, what i do is similar to bod's tek but a little different. to a no-pour plate i'll add:
3 tablespoons water 1/5th teaspoon of BRF slightly less than 1/5th of a teaspoon of agar 2 drops of honey or maple syrup.
then PC for 25 minutes
i can't say exactly how this compares to other recipes but it seems to work well for what it is. i inoculated 6 plates recently and in less than two days i was seeing growth and there was growth on every plate. in previous attempts using MEA i was averaging 3.5-4 days to see growth and only 4 out of 6 plates showing growth.

I have germinated Pans on dog food agar at 2% and BRF at 2%. I've read that a more nutritious media is preferred for germination. Maybe try inoculating a few grains first?

@ Universe Unknown:
I don't see any blue green. And I agree about not using popcorn, but yours looks good so far.
On the agar stuck to the lid thing, try rotating your jars (after the are all closed up after inoc) in such a way that grain covers the wedge without moving the wedge too much. Once it has grains sticking to it, it will be less prone to sticking to the lid.
You can also try a forward shake and then a quick backward shake across a level plane. This usually gets the wedge covered with grains.
The thing to avoid is inverting the jar before the wedge has grains stuck to it.
Hope that helps!

Thanks for the advice Panarchist, will try to spend some time this weekend looking for rye grains. In the meantime I got a new batch of agar up and got some transfers going so hopefully in a week or so I can do some more A2G

Will give that a try and see how it works out. If I lose one jar it's ok but I guess I was more concerned that it had been 5 days and only little growth was taking place even in the other jars - I was worried that I might have some contam slowing or halting my growth.
I'm new at this but from the posts I've seen here in this forum usually after 5 days there is far more colonization. I suppose it's probably the fact that I used popcorn.
Thanks again!
