So I made some experimental cakes made with, shredded straw, a bit of verm, a bit of gypsum, hydrated WHOLE brown rice, and a spoon full of coffee. It made me 7 and 1/2 pint sized cakes. I hit the half full and one full one with a bunch of pan cambo LC a couple days ago. They appear to be colonizing fast. If they prove to be anything good I will post pics.

I am thinking I might case and fruit the half full jar in vitro. I need to pick up some peat for casing these things.

I figured if we can spawn to pasteurized straw then why not make a cake out of it. I got 6 jars of LGT LC on this as well. I can't wait to see what kind of yield I get. I REALLY hope pans will produce off of this. I still have not decided if I will spawn as a cake, or fruit from the top in the jar. Think about how many cakes you could make from a bale of straw, lol, and a bale is like $3-5 around my parts. I am hoping that the straw helps the mycelium colonize much faster than normal. Only time will tell.

I see what you're doing... please make a journal entry and spam it with posts instead of the boards

I didn't really think I was spamming the board. I had though I was conversing with chron and then germs. Didn't know I shouldn't share my trials. I do have a journal going for those of you who are interested in this, check it out.

Nice Mad, make us a new pancake recipe! I do like straw a lot. It makes a substrate so light and airy. There is not much weight to a jar of substrate with straw in it. Lot's of pockets. I also noticed the straw really WANTS to be colonized. It's often the first noticeable pieces in the jars colonized with coton like myc...

The only disadvantage to straw in jars (but that doesn't matter with cakes) is that it's hard to shake...

Btw: How are Cambos compared to Cyanescens when it comes to difficulty?

Hey folks, I'm a newbie who's been using agar for the past few weeks to try and clean up a wild pan cyans print that I have. Unfortunately after my third transfer I got busy and didn't have time to make a quick fourth transfer. I have two questions if anyone out there can help me:

1- Is that yellowing on the backside of my plates bacteria?
2- Should I bother trying to transfer any of these plates or go back to spores and start over?

I'm using MEA with green food coloring. Most of these plates have been sitting for one week

Plate 1 (This is the only plate from 2nd transfer and not third - You can see where I cut this one a week ago to make transfers)

Plate 1a (child of plate 1 above):

It's hard to see. Are you sure it's not just the food coloring that makes the mycelium show as green? Does it look like it's glinstering/wet?

it's the myc eating the food coloring. not bacteria. those look good. those are a week past transfer? then they're likely not mold
