yea you're right, for some reason my head when straight to regular mouth ones. with pans though wouldn't he want to keep it thinner than that?

I don't really know how that would play out with pans. That is a really good point.

Just when I started to lose hope for this tub, I bottom watered it with about 50ml last night and all these pins shot up over night. Millet spawned to straight coir and cased with 50/50
I’m beyond hyped

Very happy for you!
As for the comment about aged manure with pine shavings, I would be careful using any conifer. The sap is quite antifungal

That's cool germs. Never seen pans do well on coir.

continued success with your fruiting, Germs. i will be curious to see how this turns out.
Xclozure, maybe if you can separate the horse manure from the pine shavings and then leech it out some it could be usable but i can't say for sure. i just use the black kow composted cow manure that you get at homedepot or lowes. it's like $5 for a 50 pound bag. if you're not in a rush maybe wait and see how Germs' grow turns out. it looks like it may be a good example of the potential of straight coir.

I doubt that highly. One freak occurance doesn't justify a new means. There will have to be consistent results.

I've seen a few people pull it off, but we will likely never be able to compare the two. pans aren't used to eating coconuts

the fact that many people have stated in this thread that coir isn't worth the shit (literally) is all the info I need to deduct that pans don't like coco coir

I have about 10 qts of pan cyan spawn ready to go and I don’t plan on touching manure anytime soon so we’ll see how my different runs with coir will go. Just trying out different casing materials and fruiting conditions. Based on the pinset of that first tub, if most all of them reach maturity I will have had my expectations exceeded, because i nearly tossed it after not seeing anything for 18-19 days since spawning

Edit to add pics. These were taken 6 hours after the previous

Heck yeah Germs! I've got some shoebox tubs of pan cams going now. CVG as substrate. They are colonizing well. Probably around 80% to 90%. Gonna case with some seed starter mix in a few days.
I've always read that they won't grow on anything but poo so I'm pumped that you're having success!
Granted poo is a tried and true.
See what I did there? Lol
