I have shaken pans. One didn't recover and the other did, BUT I am fairly sure the one was due to bacteria. Seems to me most pics I have seen people post, of Pan mycelium on agar, are still contaminated and weak. My pan cambo was crazy vigorous and looked, well healthier. It looked like it was thriving on my MEA instead of struggling like many pics I have seen. I know people keep talking about how different it looks from cube mycelium but I think that is over exaggerated. To me, my healthy pan mycelium looked close to good tom. cube mycelium. I truly think this genus needs more research and cultivation, truly under rated.

Judging by your comments, it seems like the safest bet is to start from spores to agar rather than the mycelium from a a month ago?
I do think it is very easy to miss bacteria with pans, at least for me. I've had several jars or bags of grain spawn go bad even as the mycelium grows quickly. I think those contaminations came from agar dishes that I didn't realize were bacterial.

I would agree that pan mycelium can easily hide bacteria. I had what looked like a good clean MS culture. I slanted the 5th transfer. I can see on it signs of some bacteria, BUT it is kind of like a check point. I shouldn't have to go back to spores, but I will if I need to.

Looks amazing, how do you case and about how long does it take to see pins from spawning?

I wish you had a pic without light behind it. It's hard to see; the darker spots in the middle area look like spots where the myc has dissapeared/thinned. That is what I alway's see when plates age a little. Nothing special. But sometimes that indicates bacteria. I can't tell the difference from the pics with that kind of light. That's the problem...
The plate on the right I would not trust because it grows well only on one side and has a very white (probably fluffy) piece of myc blocking further growth.. My few cents..

Lighting looks fine to me... same sentiment as Shroomway on 3rd plate at 3:30 to 6 o clock. Maybe xfer from those other sides.
Pics 1 n 2 look good to me, but still new to Pans

The pics are not bad at all. It's just hard to know what the darker spots look like in real life. For that you need light from the front/above. Alway's hard from pics anyway... But pics is all we have

I was just curious if they looked typical-ish for Ptrop. They look shitty to me but it could be they don't like the MEA. Another pic....not the greatest though:

Cool, brother. Let us know how it goes. If you think pan trop myce looks trippy on agar wait til you see some live pan Cambo Goliath (Thailand) on agar.

Of that last picture the upper left looks the best to me. The lowest plate on that pic to me looks for sure good enough to take clean transfers from, but the middle of the plate looks a little bit suspicous to me. But it can definately be an ok plate too. The difference between a light contam or just thinned out myc after a week of ageing can be very hard to tell. The plate to the right I would use for transfers.
I like oats agar for pan myc. Does really well compared to PDA and MEA for me. Also experimenting with Dogfood agar. The DFA results look good so far... Also doing some tests with manure tea added... I have some PDA, DFA and oats agar compared to the same but with manure tea in stead of water... Will post some pics when it grows out a little

I case with jiffy mix as soon as it's fully colonized and put into fruiting Normally takes a week for pins
