Cool. Like what? The cactus soil casing with perlite instead of vermiculite?

Yup! And the 50/50 without the +. Do you case at spawn or wait til a certain degree of colonization?

Oh yea, no plus. Good. With pans I case at full colonization, then immediatly introduce into fruiting. When you say you case at spawning, what exactly do you mean? Do you to mean cover the substrate once it's mixed with a thin layer of bulk substrate materials?

I consider it a top layer or pseudocasing to "case" at spawn a true casing is laid after full colonization IMO

Yes that is what I was referring to. I seem to always have better results when doing this

when doing the top layer? I think both are beneficial in different ways but I'm not experienced enough to say forsure

Yes I do that with pans, brother, then once the substrate is fully colonized, a proper casing layer goes on, then the susbtrate is introduced into fruiting conditions. Pans only take 7-10 days to colonize a substrate. They are fast.

do you add a top layer of bulk at spawn ham?

is that just in general or just with pans?

That looks like healthy pan trop myce to me. Take a transfer, or two from between 8 & 2 o'clock.

Pan mycelium is so strange it almost seems to sweat moisture, as in your photo its only moist where the mycelium is not the rest of the plate, grain is the same way the whole bag of grain looks super wet untill its mixed then it looks too dry
Not the best photo but i found pans will get these tiny pins on the agar, id try to propagate those areas . All the darker spots on this plate are pins

Cool thanks. I was worried original plate had weird growth. Chalked it up as ms and the fact Ive only seen contams and cube mycelia.

So why is it we don't want the casing pH adjusted with lime for pan cyan? Gonna make some today for a tub I got that's ready for it but am just curious about the science behind it

Becuase pans are fast enough. PH adjusting casing layers is for species that are slow to pin, and the casing is required to be around for a while. I've also heard it reported that lime hurts pan myce, but can't really attest to that. Go ahead, and add lime if you're unsure of your pasteurization skills, or if it will make you feel better. It's not a deal breaker whether, or not lime is added to pan casings. There's simply no need for it, though is all.

So IF I understood what I read correctly, HIGH humidity can cause issues fruiting Pan's. Humidity should be kept low? So would I want to bottom water and do an open air fruiting?
