The pan tropicals mycelium sure looks fine and whispy,  can't even see it growing up the side of my mono tub

The clones I made of that huge cluster are quite solid thick white though almost scares me how different it looks
But I guess all have to grow it out to see if it works

Gotta keep in mind it's not cube myce you are dealing with, and carry on.  There is a reason for the appearance of pan myce generally being whispy.  Cool shot, 99.99.

another reason is because I have yet to have grain spawn of any species clean enough to spawn with

been meaning to update my own results but i've been so busy this past two months that whenever i have some free time
i'm too tired to get anything else done. back near the end of june i managed to pull off my second successful fruiting.  the pinset wasn't
that expansive and the fruits were kind of strangely shaped but they were big and meaty and after having dealt with a couple of challenging
setbacks i was just happy it turned out as good as it did. this was a 12 qt. minitub of pan tropicalis. it yielded 80 grams fresh weight off a first flush. it pushed out another 5 grams fresh on a second flush but succumbed to a trich-looking infection and stopped producing.

and this was a shoebox i spawned with some grainspawn that was showing signs of bacterial infection. the infection was pretty localized so i figured let me see if i can scoop around it and see if i can get anything out of it. it wound up pushing out about 14 grams fresh weight which isn't much but is pretty good considering i was considering throwing this grainspawn in the garbage.

when i started over with pan tropicalis back in the spring i had gone through two syringes of pan cyan with no results to show for it however i learned alot from my mistakes so i was determined to get it right this time. initially things were looking good but then i hit a setback when the mycelium just didn't like the MEA i was using. i was able to get around this by switching over to a BRF agar recipe and things were back on track. i was able to get a clean culture and set about inoculating a bunch of containers of WBR.

things continued to progress along nicely but then i hit another setback. i live in south florida and have no air-conditioning and one day it got up into the mid 90's F. as a result all the plates of clean mycelium i had obtained died and my grainspawn got stalled out. the plates were totally fucked but the grainspawn came back somewhat but with very slow growth. after watching it for about 10 days and seeing very little progress i figured let me just spawn it to substrate and see what happens. i didn't have much expectation that anything good would come from it but it couldn't hurt to try. to my complete surprise the mycelium came right back to life and colonized the substrate in 7 days.

i was considering giving it a consolidation period but there were a bunch of primordia and even a few tiny mushrooms forming so i just applied the casing layer and let it do it's thing. 36 hours later, fruits started popping up and i wound up pulling in a decent harvest. had some of the circumstances been different the results might have been even nicer but i wasn't complaining because at certain points in learning about this process there were setbacks so challenging i questioned whether i would ever see any results.

did you only spawn the colonized grain or the whole jar?

Question i use the same size totes as you but i see you dont have holes in them with pollyfill, whats  your process like once you get the substrate are you misting and faning manually ore how do you keep them going

tryptkaloids, it was just the colonized grains and they only comprised about a third of what was there.

99.99, the shoebox was done open-air and the minitub was done semi open-air. i had one side of a t-shirt with holes in it draped over the top most of the time  but for several hours day it was totally exposed. i unintentionally applied my casing layer too wet so i didn't have to mist until the flush was done.

i had originally planned to do a martha-style setup but at the time i had this nosy cousin staying with us so i had to keep things somewhat concealed. the RH where i live hovers between the mid 50's and mid 70's this time of year so i figured i would give it a try and see how it goes. i can't say if it's the best route to take but it does show that they are pretty flexible in terms of their humidity requirements.
my cousin is no longer with us though so for my next fruiting i want to give the martha a try and see if it's any better.

Why does that t shirt look like someone pissed on it and then rolled it across a floor that hasn't been mopped for a year?

Well i put half of mine in totes without The poly fill in the holes  and the other half with the polyfill in the holes just on the shelf to see what was best
I think the ones on the shelf wore a little bit better, but it's all a work in progress I'm sure if you get one or the other dialed init will produce perfect fruits
I liked my martha because of the fan I put in the top of it I could actually force humid air into the totes  without getting the pins wet and aborting them

BlackCat, it was an old shirt that was worn for painting work. it's trashed out but it was laundered and clean. i kind of roll ghetto style so certain aspects of my procedures are a bit funky but it's my goal to show that pans don't need to be pampered the way many think they do.

99.99. yeah , i like the versatility of that kind of setup and it sounds like it's a lot better environment for growing edible mushrooms too which is something i want to do also.

I shook this cambo jar yesterday late afternoon and i look this morning and its already recovered.

Looks good but i have been decieved by pans many times on grain.
Although i have never had trouble with shaking pans, i do think this culture might be hiding something unwanted.

And i made a couple of grain soak water and lme lc innoced with an agar wedge from a more recent plate. Was thinking about free pouring to a couple bags.

Lets keep this thread moving guys, the more you post the more we learn!

Grain looks fine from here, but I'm sure you can see those detailed behaviors better than we can. Maybe a better pic upload? The glare on that one is covering most of the jar!

Panarchist, that's a nice clean plate you have there! Keep it up.

I also just got a new syringe of Pan Tropical that I put to some agar yesterday along with some Pan Cyanescens from a syringe I had left over. The spawned grain I had went bad while I was away. I also had a few dishes of Pam Cyan in the fridge that I put to some grain jars.

We shall see what develops.
