I found out that the print itself was just bunk, because i got another print from a really good member here, and it was some what of a fresh print from a grow i saw.
I reckon you are very right with that. I had the same experience with cubes before.... At the moment I am having the problem with Pan Cyan spores. I just know it's old spores that make my jars colonize very slowly. It could have been much more lively. Some of the agar dishes just stalled on me also...
Hope I can get some fruits for prints! Thumbs crossed. All that work must pay off!!

Speed Racer is ready to make another go at it. My first spawned substrate got turned into the garden, forgot to pasteurize the sub.
I have a couple questions and all suggestions would be welcome...
I have 6.5 quarts of Hawaiian Copelandia spawned on Wheat Berries close to full colonization.
Four gallons of substrate at field capacity being pasteurized as we speak; 50/50 Eco Earth brand coir and Bovine Dung + 10% coarse Verm and 5% Gypsum.
1. Is a Monotub the way to go?
I have one Monotub, a Sterilite 80 qt. clear lid, ported following Green Rabbit’s guide lines in his Thermodynamic Analysis of Monotub Air Currents post. My top holes are filtered with 1 layer of eco-fi polyester felt. The bottom holes are filtered with 2 layers of the same eco- fi felt. I also have…
Two IRIS® 46 Quart Weathertight Plastic Storage Boxes, clear lids; unadulterated. Two of these fit nicely on the 18” x 36” five shelf steel rack.
What is with the “Shoe Box” FC?
I’m thinking of converting these 46 qt. tubs into Monotubs. Is there any benefit to a Shoe Box?
2. Do I cover the substrate in the monotub with some black plastic with a few pinholes in it after mixing in the spawned wheat berries or just cover the vents in the monotub with tape or Saran Wrap during the colonization period?

Shroomway, keep plugging away. pans are a challenge but the rewards certainly make up for it. if you're having trouble with the vitality of your mycelium and you're sure it's not lingering infection maybe try switching back and forth between different growth mediums. i had a clean plate of mycelium that got heat shocked recently so i threw some wedges on some grain and it came back albeit very slowly so now i'm going to throw some colonized grain back on agar and see if that helps revive it.
Speed Racer, sounds like your on track. any kind of tub shaped container can work and they are a popular option just watch out using really big ones because if something goes wrong all of your eggs will be in the same basket. and they don't even need to be modified and clear ones are the best so you can see what's going on. the main thing is once you get fruits popping up you want to give them plenty of FAE. i have a 12 qt. one that i use that would be referred to as a minitub, a shoebox would be anything a little smaller than that. and don't cover your colonizing substrate with anything it needs to breathe and anything that blocks that can cause problems.

Don't cover the sub, Got It.
Those two 46 qt. tubs are more clear than they look in the picture, I can see in them. I may make one of them into a monotub and leave the other as is.
I inoculated these four jars and two bags with LC I made from the mycelium on PDA. Doing a little experimenting/learning the ways. They are not fast to colonize, but are looking good. I have a few clean plates of mycelium in the fridge and I'll pick up some Rye Berries and do it to them down the road.
I would like to try a different species of Copelandia as well.
The roaster I picked up for $7 worked well to pasteurize the sub. It held 11 qts. kept the temp at 150 deg - 160 deg with little effort...thank you Betty Crocker.
I hope the next picture will be FRUIT. I'll keep you posted.

Speed Racer, good luck with your project. once you get a feel for the procedures it all just comes together. sounds like your in the home stretch.
wildernessjunkie, as far as i know panaeolus cinctulus has always been considered a panaeolus and though cinctulus is most commonly used on the latter half subbalteatus is still accepted. i suppose because they are not generally known to have a strong staining reaction they were never included in copelandia.

From what I read here on Shroomery the Substrate should be No More than 2 inches thick, No uncolonized Grain Showing and the magic Temperature is 78F-84F with 90%-95% RH for pan cyans.
Temperature on the low side of the range and humidity at 95% ...

Some current Panaeolus/Copelandia project progress.
- 3 different varities, 2 different species of Panaeolus on a 5+2 part cake recipe 97% colonized, check. - 8 different varities of Panaeolus germinating on agar, check. - 3 no pour Panaeolus transfers of different varities to be cased like MadHatter colonizing, check. - 2 Panaeolus Cyanescens Australian grain bags colonizing away, check.

Well I spawned 2qt Pan cambo to about 2qt CVG on the 13th. It has fully colonized everything, even casing layer. Not sure if that's good or bad, but I will let her ride and hope for fruits very soon. I cope to be able to get prints to share. I will get a pic later tonight.

yeah, that sounds about right. but if your spawning grains that have not fully colonized do not include those uncolonized grains in the mix as they could become infected. and if you're grains are fully colonized i wouldn't worry about leaving them exposed on the surface. and in my experience it seems like temperatures up to 90F/32C shouldn't be a problem though the range you mentioned would be considered ideal. and high humidity isn't really necessary after fruits are forming i would be more concerned with providing sufficient FAE yet not letting your casing layer get dried out.

Should I re-case if my Pan colonized it with the sub rather quick? I got to get a pic in a few min. That shit like full colonized the shoebox in 3 days from spawn.

So this is my pan cambo shoebox I spawned 3 days ago. When I checked it this morning it has a lot of water pooling, none of the 5 cube shoeboxes spawned same time did it, strange. So I dumped off what would run off and stuck it in this mini mono to see if the rest would evaporate. It didn't as you can see in the pics, so after taking picks I wicked it up with a napkin. THIS TUB IS OUT PACING 4 LUCY and 1 Matias Romero cube.
I welcome any insight on this that will help me to pull off some fruits, if you see something wrong, TELL ME PLEASE. It may have some bacteria in it, then again this culture grows like mad on agar. So what may look similar to cube mycelium bubbling up from bacteria, could be the mycelium just grew fast, as on agar, and the pooled water "matted" it up in places causing that bubbled up mycelium look.

Awesome. I just knocked some pan cambo lcs a few days ago! Can't wait to look and see how they are coming. Is that a verm casing? Looks like pan mycelia. Looking good so far. Doesn't appear to be pooling anymore.

Yea straight verm casing. The jars for this were knocked from my Pan cambo LC. I need a damn stir plate. I wound up with a tick mycelium growing at the surface, I put to much nutrition in my LC as Lucy is doing it some as well.

MadHatter, that's some bad casing overlay you have there. i haven't seen a conclusive explanation for what causes it but it doesn't seem to be related to infection. some growers have suggested that consolidating your substrate after full colonization can reduce the likelihood of it's occurrence but there is not much you can do once you have it except hope for the best. the mycelium can still fruit but it will probably not be as prolific as it would have been if the overlay hadn't occurred. i don't think it would be a good idea to recase it but i don't have any personal experience with it so i can't say for sure. if you do a search on this thread there are a bunch of other instances of growers dealing with situation.

I got more LC, I just wanted to spawn one as I figured round 1 would have some failure. Got to learn how to handle Pan's. Crazy it exploded like that in 3 days from spawn. I may throw a bit more casing over it, not sure.

Big day today; I layered 2.33 qts. of spawned grain on top of 4 qts/1” of pasteurized substrate in my Sterilite 80 qt. Monotub then covered that with 3/4" of substrate. The spawn has the SWEET smell of fresh mushrooms. Covered the vents with Glad Press’n Seal.
Before covering them I definitely detect the shroom smell outside the bottom vents, meaning the Monotub does vent.
The ambient temp. in my work room is at 76.5 degrees. I have an inferred thermometer so I will get a reading on the sub temp. in 24 hours.
I'm pumped!
Still have another 6 qts. of grain colonizing and two 46 qt. tubs that I should be able to spawn in a few days.
I guess I should start to get the Jiffy Mix and some crushed Oyster Shells casing up to field capacity and ready to pasteurize. I like to let my sub. sit for a couple days after it is hydrated so the moisture content can normalize.
How long does it take for a monotub of Copelandia to colonize?

it's probably me but one of us is wrong. I thought pan cambo was different from pan cyan. are cambos just a specific genetic line of cyans or are they a different subspecies alltogether?
