I'm getting ready to mix my spawned Oat berries into the growing media.
I think i have it pretty much figured out but have 2 question.
1. When do I case the joint with the Jiffy Starter Mix?
As a review: I will mix up my growing substrate as follows:
Bovine Dung 45% Coir 40% Coarse Verm 10% Gypsum 5%
Bring it to Field Moisture Capacity and then Pasteurize.
Mix the spawned Oats in the growing chamber (under sanitary conditions).
In the monotub use a black garbage bag as a liner and fold the film over the top of the substrate, burn in a few holes holes with my cigarette and cover that with some crumpled aluminum foil. NO GRAIN SHOWING in the substrate.
1. When do I take a peak under the blanket and cover with the casing?
My quart jars of spawn are going gangbusters Maybe a couple days till what I SEE is all colonized on most of the quarts.
2. Then wait another week before mixing into the growing media?
Pan cyanescens Hawaiian on Agar to wheat berries on 5-21.
5-31-2017 Shook 5 of the 6 jars
6-5-17 Quarts really taking off.

Ive had lots of problems with overlay on pans and I've just about came to the conclusion the pans need to consolidate for aleast a week after their fulley colonized
Everything else sounds great

"burn in a few holes holes with my cigarette and cover that with some crumpled aluminum foil" Agar posted this.
When you say "pans need to consolidate for at least a week after their fully colonized" ...Do you mean in the quart jars before introducing the spawn to the substrate?

Before you would put the jiffymix on My thoughts are the mushrooms should think they're running out of food so they produce the fruits to propagate
The Jiffy mix just makes a perfect climate for the pins to grow in

Speed Racer, don't let your grainspawn consolidate. as soon as it is %100 colonized you should combine it with your substrate. if you go with a 1:2 spawn/sub ratio you will probably have full colonization of the substrate in around 7 or 8 days. when your substrate is fully colonized many pan growers have found that giving it a consolidation period helps to prevent casing overlay and induce more vigorous fruiting. this is what 99.99 is referring to. when that consolidation phase is over is when you would case and start fruiting. and don't bother putting a layer of aluminum foil over it. the mycelium can handle some exposure to open air at this point and the top of your monotub will be enough to block excess exposure and hold humidity in.

Nothing huge, but here goes a couple of 50 quart monotubs I built out of a 6 quart bag of colonized, and supplemented Panaeolus Cyanescens "Tampa" whole oats, and pasteurized horse manure/vermiculite/gypsum (75/25/6%) a couple of days back recovering.

How thick is that substrate, Ham? I know they like it thinner than cubes, that about 2 - 2.5 inches or so?

Thanks you guys are ALL a lot of help.
Is it OK to mix up my Substrate a few days before I pasteurize and use it?
I got another 3 gallon bucket of Bovine Dung from a little Dairy Farm near me...a Good Find and an unlimited supply.

I've been working it and turning it for the last week. It's aged nicely and doesn't stink like shit any more. I've got it to a nice Field Capacity and My Thinking is to add the Coir, it's a bag of fluffy CANNA Coco that is already hydrated, and add the Gypsum and Verm. The first couple Cow Pies I got I let dry out completely and they turned into chunks of Concrete. This new pile of shit is way better processed.
 I'm getting close,

I saw a wood chipper at harbor freight. My 1st though was the different ways I could use it for mycology. I bet it would shred straw nicely if put through it right. It would make easy work of concrete style cow pies. Then there is the obvious of making my own mulch.

Speed Racer, mixing your substrate beforehand shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't pasteurize until you're ready to use it. and be careful with that CANNA coco. it is processed for use in growing plants and has trichoderma added to it. i'm not sure if that means it's unusable or that it just needs to be sterilized at high heat to make it usable.

CANNA Coco: I thought I found some real good Coco. I see on the CANNA web site they say because they don't steam sterilize the COCO product it has the beneficial Trichoderma still in the COCO.
Thanks a bunch Panarchist you may have saved me...again. Thanks for paying attention to my posts.
I do have a medical autoclave that steam sterilizes up to 27 psi & 270 deg F. I will have to take an extra step and run some nylon stockings stuffed with the coco through it, not including the Dung...ad that later. Either that or go to Pets Mart and pick up a brick.
I've been successful so far crossing several Mile Stones and I don't want to mess up now.
What is a good brand of Coco that I can buy off the shelf of a big box retailer? I think I am looking at mixing the spawned grain with my substrate on Sunday. To be safe I could do one tub with sterilized CANNA and the second with something else.
I did buy two bags of Jiffy seed starter could I mix that with the Dung?

I made cakes with jiffy starter mix. I couldn't tell them apart from my CVG cakes. Just make sure it at least gets a pasteurization.

I picked up a nice electric Roaster at a thrift store for $6.00 for pasteurizing. I will pasteurize my mixed substrate.
