I would case @ 1/4", put back in incubation for 48hrs. (To let the mycelia push through the casing by 20-30%) Then fruit.
(I see alot of metabolites; suspecting bacterial contamination)

Is it just me or does this look like thousands, if not hundreds of hyphal knots??

If so, how cool is tht?! I've never seen knots on my other panaeolus projects.
Funny thing is, I haven't fanned this tub yet, its been sealed up, wth the RH sitting at 96.5%^ since Day 1(fruiting) It got up to 99% yesterday. (not sure why tho) Panaeolus ceases to amaze me.
I should be expecting pins by tomorrow sometime.

I just made some transfers from a pan trop plate that was started with an invitro pin clone. I should be ready to use it by my next days off from work. The plate I took the clone from produced pins like crazy. It even produced a mature fruit that dropped spores. I'm expecting good things from this culture.

Here is my pan jamaica tub colonization with polyfil in the holes. All day 3. These were all done using grain prepared by cornmeal plate Liquid inoculation. I am going to case them tomorrow. Same jars as posted above. This was a coir/verm/dung/gypsum mix. will case tomorrow or the next day.

Seeing as how you guys have a few pan grows under your belts
Why do the lot of folks suggest a 2 inch substrate does it really differ with pans that much from your typical 4 inch sub level

Pan mycelia isnt as rhizomorphic/strong as cubensis. Meaning, it cant push it's self through a dense substrate like cubensis can.. There will be alot of uncolonized parts within the substrate.. Not to mention it will go anaerobic.
Same concept as to why we dont use gallon jars in mush cult.
You can test this out yourself if you'd like by making up a few trays from the same batch of spawn, make some with 3-5" and others with 1-2" sub depths.

I actually prefer a 2" sub depth for cubes too.

Do you case them? I heard that shallow subs have a tough time keeping humidity levels up at the surface, and pinning is stalled as a result.

Sometimes I case. Sometimes I don't but I mist my monos so it's not an issue.
