Yeah chalk marker lines planning on what to take. First time doing agar work so Iβm trying to figure out what to look for exactly. From your picks Iβm looking for dense growth?

Some Nec D I spawned yesterday. One on the left has a 1:2 spawn ratio and the one on the right has a 1:5 ratio.
Excited to see how they play out

Can you use old dry out 50/50+ casing that was once sterilized, but no longer, to just sprinkle a fine layer casing and mist? or do I need to rehydrate and pasteurize?
The stuff never contaminated cause its either got so much lime or very little nutes.
Here's a very promising tote.
BVI 1qt oats, 2.5qts of coir/compost. Bucket tek coir, pasteurized/sifted blackkow - spawned 12/8 moving very fast. First time the 3 days window looks like others pics. This same culture I did a LC tek and put many drops on agar plates. I finally see the super thin and wispy growth clearly.

You could try. I feel, if it dried out, air and other particles must have gotten to it so maybe you should pasteurize again. I am a noob with pans though.
Excited to say I can finally join the party. TTBVI on millet, then CV and cased with CV. Excited to figure out how to get more healthy growth.

I started a couple of BRF cakes in April. They looked contaminated so I put them in the workshop and forgot them for months. They pinned so I topped them with coir. I was growing Bisporus and Semperviva. I thought they were bizarre Semperviva, now I think theyβre Bisporus. Prints are black. What do experienced eyes see?

I put these Pans to straw on Dec 2nd. First attempt with Pans and first with straw. The grain jars were slow to recover from the first shake, but I thought I'd give it a try anyway. I put straw in a pillow case, soaked for a couple hours, drained and rinsed, then pasteurized for an hour at 170-180 degrees. Squeezed as much water as I could get out of the straw, let it cool, then put spawn to straw.
I kept the covered box in my tent at 77-80 degrees. As they colonized, it started forming the loose fuzzy stuff. I thought things looked good but this morning I discovered the Trich. It was pretty well thru out the straw. When I dumped it in the compost, I noticed the straw was very wet.
I need some advice here. I really need to be successful with Pans because the nausea I get from eating cubes is debilitating. I've tried every kind of tek there is but I end up retching for hours. I hate it.
After looking at the Recognizing and Dealing With Contamination sticky, could the white cottony growth be Rhizopus?

Yep, those are bisporus.
Pans are also known as 'mottle gills,' the one on the far left has lovely mottled gills visible. Plus the velvety stalk and the black spores.

@ BY bassman, pasteurization temps over 170F are considered partial sterilization. Adjusting your process to keep it between 140F and 170F is what your shooting for. Maybe try running a coir verm sub alongside your straw subs or hpoo/straw subs.
It sounds like your grains were suspect to begin with though , so it really comes down to more practice across the board. Myc transfer selection, grain hydration, sterilization, sab/fh technique, sub and casing pasteurization , just keep practicing it all.

What stagger said above ^^^^^
Your pasteurization temps are too high, I'd keep it even a bit lower though, between 140F and 160F.
Apart from that I find straw terrible to work with and impossible to prevent pooling and a soggy bottom when used on its own.

As it happened, I had mixed and poured my first agar run the same day I put spawn to straw. As those jars were a little slow I thought why not grab a grain or two and put them to agar. This is how it looks today.

I thought I might have been a little hot with the pasteurization.
I used rye berries and soaked for almost 36 hours due to a delay I had in getting them into jars. Might have made the mistake of warming them on a mat after knocking them up. My room is cool and I was under the impression Pans like it around 80. The grain did look a little dry at the bottom of the jar. No more mat.
Suppose I could have let the straw dry a bit.
Since I'm used to CVG I'll give that a try. I also have plenty of straw and some Hpoo.
Starting again!! Thanks for your encouragement.

Thank you! I do have a tent and was growing this run in it.
How does that agar plate look to you? Can I knock up grain with that? My feeling is that culture is OK, but I botched up later steps.

No. Can I clean this up with successive plates or is it just fucked? And why?
Here's another agar cup. Any better?
