The substrate itself is a bit deeper than I wanted. I forgot to slightly compress after spawning. Shameful, I know.
Ehh I don’t compress much really. Just make sure it’s nice and level.
So for hydration, make sure the casing is glistening. And you can tilt the pan to dump out any excess water in the sub if it’s holding too much. I check them all daily.

How long after casing should I be expecting to see some pins/fruits?

My LC jars seem to be bouncing back.
I have some CV prepped. Was thinking I would pasturize black kow with a teaspoon of gypsum per quart. Do 50/50 CV to manure.
Is this a workable ratio for spawning?

I used 20% horse manure to coir. Pretty sure you dont need much manure but maybe Im mistaken.

guess it will depend on the consistency of your manures, 50/50 would produce a sub that was too dense and muddy with the bagged composted manure I have available. Actual straight weathered horse poo will never really have that muddy consistency, but I can't get it reliably so I take a commercial product and must be careful with the mix to make it work nice

What do you think is the shelf life of dry horse manure? Have you noticed any deterioration in the properties of manure when stored for 3 years or more?

yeah mine is never dry in the bag, but I imagine if the moisture level is kept good and the manure was aged to begin with, the life is pretty long, you will pasteurize it anyway. I have never had any for more than a year or two and sometimes the bagged stuff smells a little anaerobic when you first get it, but after mixing it up and pasteurizing it it all works fine

Thanks all! I will go two parts coir/verm to one part manure gypsum when my jars are ready.

I got a kit, which is fruiting very nicely. My question is about harvesting. The mushrooms are at different stages of development, I already harvested a small quantity, a few days ago, and left a bunch of pins and smaller shrooms. Now, is this the correct way to go about it? Harvesting what is ready, and leaving the rest till they are ready too? By the way, these are very potent, it was my first time ever eating shrooms, I ate about 0,85 dry, my buddy also took a similar dose, and.....yeah, tripping balls. But this is for another subforum Oh, I dry these in a food dehydrator, and they dry fast, as they are thin, I believe this is the correct way, right?

Comes down to personal preference. I usually pick any that drop or are about to drop spores. If the rest are close I pick them all otherwise just the big ones.

That is what I did, picked up those that started dropping spores, along with those that were close. I've read that delaying harvesting pamn cyans, after they start sporulating, for a day or so, is not an issue. Is this true? If so, then I can wait 24 hours more, and get to harvest more at once.

I think I pulled the plug on these pans too early. I was feeling I had cobweb mold, so I just made them cactus soil by mixing the cake with potting soil and sticking a calloused cacti cutting in the center. There were no little pin heads with this "mold" I got, and man I might see the same thing if I were to repeat the experience. The cincticulus might go one way or another in regards to potency and utility, but someone who cared to help pointed out that it was looking similar to how his cyan myc looked when it colonized the surface. I guess my Jar will have to tell me to what degree this shin dig is the real deal, and what is sorry cobweb mold. It'll be interesting to repeat this with another spore syringe of massive quality spores to facilitate mycelial creation within the recently pressure cooked no soak no simmer barley. I have high hopes for the same substrate I used and pasteurization method; as well as same growing container of a seven quart shoebox with a latch lid and foam sealing tape all around the edges. I was mainly going for sclerocia. Now I will post pics of fruits of I get any coming out of the cactus pot. Though what do the experts think? I would love some veterans input on why I thought these pans were going bad, and what I can do next time to avoid tripling over my own feet. It is a little bit tricky though as I am after sclerocia, regardless, I'll take your advice on fruiting and all. Thank you

I can't see anything in the first two pictures, but the last picture looks like mold to me.
Next time take the spores to agar, clean up the culture, then inoculate your grain.

For sure, that's definitely what I thought as well. I'm glad I took the forethought not to grow mold lol. Yes I'm going to Agar with the next print. It'll be an interesting time for sure, as there's probably a lot of peculiarities that Pan cinctulus will be showing on Agar.

All four sterilized poo/straw/millet bags inoculatedwith wedges are finishing up. I did shake them a couple of times and they all recovered well. Was probably two-three weeks to colonize.
Still not 100% sure it's Pan Bisporus myc. I might be growing mold but wedges from these these same plates have gone into various jars and seem to behave like Pans (don't want to colonize straight millet but does well with poo supplements, zero mold sporulation so far either in probably 12 jars, half of which stalled with hardly any colonization. The straight millet ones).
Anyway, 60/40+ bagged up and in the dehydrator for pasteurization.
Probably will cut the tops off these and case in the bag day after tomorrow, fruit in my little fruiting chamber I've been doing Tamps in.
I'll post pictures once I get the bags open.
edit: Also going to sterilize more substrate bags. 2qt cv, 1qt black kow, 1qt stalled millet. Plan is to inoculate with that EZLC I posted a few days ago.

I cut open the first of my little bags this morning and cased them. I think I'll give the other two bags another four days (they're two days behind so this will give them a few extra days just in case).
I think I did open these a touch early judging by the tops. But the bottom and sides were colonized and pulling the bag in like it was consolidating.
Anyway, these are now cased lightly with 60/40 and in fruiting. And they smelled mushroomy. So hopefully that's a sign I'm not cultivating mold.
