@adas, thanks mate. They really are, I think more and more folks will find them! I never took pictures but I was happy this early fall when walking through the garden and found little pockets of them just poking up through our mulch paths, on the entire opposite side of the yard where I tend to dump them. Somehow they made their way over there I suppose. I really need to start doing what you were/are doing with the cold hardy trials and try and get some perennial patches someday.

Looking good cambo!

Good stuff. The only thing I don’t like about growing these in tubs is not being able to get those sweet upskirt shots!

Sorry if this is answered elsewhere. When spawning pans you also need to pasteurize the substrate? I am planning on just coir ATM but going to case with a more specialized mix.

9 days after spawn the uncased RDU has it's first pin not even 24 hrs after the first mist. Temps been 66-72F. Knots are plenty, now hoping for some decent looking fruits.

@SupaThaRipper: Those gill shots are awesome! Something about looking at them that’s so satisfying!

@Baba: 9 days after spawning!? That’s super fast!?!? I may have to give this no casing and fruiting from spawn business a try! It’s funny because back in the day way before I started, the general consensus for cubes were; you NEEDED to restrict FAE at spawn and you NEEDED a casing layer. All this info has slowly been pretty much debunked.

Could we slowly be ushering a new era in which the same trend is also true when it comes to the fungal rubix cube that are Panaeolus Cyanescens!?

Stay tuned kids!!

I think we will see over time all the current “requirements” get proven unnecessary, just as some of the old “requirements” already have. Though I wonder if this is more so a result of pans becoming more and more domesticated over time and the lineages becoming more tolerable of us. Would be interesting to side by side with wild genetics and see if the requirements still hold true? Either way the future is exciting. I think though on the other side more and more people are experimenting with things outside the traditional so it’s just as likely we just assumed wrong for too long.

Those RDU in my experience are like that though and tend to be super fast to pin.

I never even thought of that, that’s a great point. As they get more and more ‘domesticated’ they become evermore tolerant of our incessant obsession with growing them in controlled conditions.

Could you please elaborate on why Bisporus mushrooms are your favorite? Additionally, could you explain how their effects compare to those of Pan Cyan mushrooms or any other properties they may have?

I mean look at em. I think as far as pans go they’re the most beautiful in my opinion, great contrast and just generally bring a really good energy with them all around, I also fucking love their smell, by far my favorite smelling pan.

As far as effects go I think their more earthly than cyans, and the work with my body really well, nice and full in my head but gentle on my body. Cyans I think can get a bit extra terrestrial and chaotic for me, not saying that’s bad but I find myself needing to be in a certain time or place for them, bisporus I don’t gotta worry about that. I think if I had to compare them I’d say bisporus is deep beneath the earth while cyans are way up in space. I really enjoyed cambia as well but not as acquainted with them to speak on it too much, aside from they were exceptionally feisty in good way, at least the ones from Komodo.

In general though it’s hard to pin point I think I just have a stronger connection to them. They’re all fantastic though don’t get me wrong.

This Nec D culture is beginning to knot 6 days after spawn.

+1 for Bispo. I’ve done quite a range of mushrooms in my very short reign of 3 years. In many cases each one better than the next as I slowly got better and better at cult. Managed to successfully grow some bispo and have hit a wall ever since. They have consistently been the best mushroom I’ve ever consumed in all and every way. For me they are what APE’s are to cubes.

They are the APE’s of Pans.

Yes sir and I do keep my Martha’s inside of Mylar tent as well. Leave the bottom of the Martha’s cracked a touch to and timed exhaust on the Mylar tent directly outside. Cheap tiny heater on low in the Mylar tent. Even with a large Mylar tent, the heater heats it like it’s nothing. I have three separate Mylar tents I do this with and it’s dirt cheap on the electric.

My Mylar tents stay only around 45% on the humidity. So they stay nice and dry even with the Martha’s in them

I would hate to see someone have to shut down during the winter 😔

It's not so bad.  I grow cold weather species in the winter and the tent is mostly for edibles.  Right now I have some Black Pearl flushing and am looking forward to doing a lot of cooking with them.

Anyway...  the incubators are set up and running pretty well.  There is some slight condensation in the jars and running plates in it makes visibility terrible but whatever, things are growing and the heat seems to stay around 72 even at night.  The ATL 7 is putting up some nice stones too.

Made up four bags of millet, black kow, and coir/verm I had alreay prepped.  Dropped one bisporus wedge in each bag and waiting still for visible growth, this was three days ago (I lost track of the wedges fussing with the bags).

Also dropped a bisporus wedge onto an EZLC plate that seems to be doing well so far.

Right now I'm running millet that was soaked in compost tea I made from the black kow.  Tomorrow I plan to drop more bisporus wedges in a few quarts of that along with two quarts I have already prepped that have about a tablespoon each of black kow added to them.

So yeah, hoping to get something running soon!

I'm growing in my basement storage, and at the moment it's 10C down there. I slapped together a box out of styrofoam and used the fan and heating element from my dead dehydrator to heat it and also force air exchange. The FC is a plastic tote with water, air stones, ultrasonic fogger and a circulation fan. The fan and heater kicks in about every 10 minutes to keep 27C inside the FC. The fogger is on for 10-20s every minute, and the circulation fan pulls the fog up from below for 5 seconds. Air stones are on all the time, and I adjust humidity with the fogger. The other day I bought an aquarium heater, since I've been running the 17W LED strip 24-7 to keep temps up without running the heater+FAE too often.

This was just a prototype, I'd like to make something bigger with sturdier bathroom insulation plates. Either a box around a Martha, or maybe I keep this tote concept. That way I don't chill the whole FC if I attend to trays.

When treating them like this they usually fruit around day 8. Of course temperatures do play a role as well. All 6 tub I did last year during summer were working out that way.

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/28147485#28147485

I am not sure why it is working so well but it shows that there is more than one way to crumble the cookie it's just important to know how to bake a good one.

But speaking of working well, This is the first pan tub I do this year and there is still only a few pins so I don't want to get ahead of myself and see this through first. When I got in the room this morning the temp was down to 65F

Nice, make sure to keep us updated then. I’m gunna spawn another bispo tub probably the end of the week. If you get decent results I’ll do the same and fruit at spawn with no casing, see what happens!
