My girlfriend doesn't like to run the heat much at night and it's a poorly insulated back bedroom.

Trying to find a compromise to keep the heating bill reasonable.

Last winter we tried putting a space heater in the basement to keep the tent warm enough for a shiitake culture I was running. It didn't work and wasn't cheap.

What kind of tent we’re you using? Couldn’t have been a good one with the aluminum sidings if it was jacking up your electric bill. I also run my space heater on a heat timer, on the lowest possible setting. Didn’t notice any difference in the electric bill.

Decent grow tents are super cheap on Amazon, if you have access to that. I’ve also got them brand new for even cheaper on FB marketplace. I have 3 6’x6’x7’ lol. Think I payed like $120 for a piece for 2 of them off Amazon and then $50 for the other from FB

If you only heat the tent and not the room, it's hard to deal with the amount of condensation that will occur on the inside of the tent.

I was heating the outside.

It's a mylar tent not a martha.

And the space heater wasn't good to be running in that high of humidity.

Thanks for the heads-up on FB marketplace though.  I bought mine on Amazon over COVID.  When I need another one I will check FB too.

Yes sir and I do keep my Martha’s inside of Mylar tent as well. Leave the bottom of the Martha’s cracked a touch to and timed exhaust on the Mylar tent directly outside. Cheap tiny heater on low in the Mylar tent. Even with a large Mylar tent, the heater heats it like it’s nothing. I have three separate Mylar tents I do this with and it’s dirt cheap on the electric.

My Mylar tents stay only around 45% on the humidity. So they stay nice and dry even with the Martha’s in them

I would hate to see someone have to shut down during the winter 😔

Few bisporus tubs today, should have picked em last night but too tired, now I got spores everywhere, shit got me sneezing…

Anyways I think these exemplify the importance of placement for tubs. One tub was placed in the most open side of my rack, eg open space surrounded the majority of the tub, one was placed in the mid of my rack, eg surrounded by other tubs, and the last was placed in the least open area, eg surrounded by some tubs and the corners of my walls.

Open side tub,

Midrack,

Least open,

All done with the same cloned culture. It seems surrounded by other tubs doesn’t matter as much, though surrounded by walls affected them significantly. Tubs offer ample airflow as long as that air can reasonably get to them I suppose. Granted small sample size so grain of salt yadda yadda… but the results make sense to me.

My current recipe is:
3L peat, 1L Verm, 650ml water with 1tbsp calcium hydroxide.

I mix the lot together and then pasteurise for 4 hours with sous vide.

I apply 2-4 days after full colonisation with a thin layer just enough to cover the surface myc same as Baba.

Great stuff kirkeng, will keep an eye on this as well. Bisporus is on grain right now, can't wait to welcome those beauties to my home.

Nice grow! I’m about to try these out for the first time myself. Do you have any good recommendations on teks or starting points? I did good with pan cyans. Terrible so far with Pan cambos haha. Have an LC of these arriving soon

@baba, I’m sure they’ll fit right in at your home! I dunno what it is about bisporus but they really bring in an interesting energy in mine. Aside from my salvia plant it’s the only other friend I have that visits me in my dreams regularly. Something different about them.

@supa, I’ve only ever done them tubs, babas tel on that would be your best starting point. That being said it seems you’ve already done cyans in a tent? If so I’d honestly just treat em like you do cyans in that setup. No use in reinventing the wheel if you already got a confirmed method. I find them less finicky than cyans as is and I don’t change my methods at all when growing cyans, bisporus, or cambos. The best bet is to search for a culture that tolerates you and what you can provide in my opinion.

That was exactly the answer I was going for, treat them all the same. Thank you! I’m summing it up as the genetics I received on the cambos were just awful. Going to find some new stuff and try again! Fingers crossed to the bisporus! They look fun!

What kirkeng said.

Some people out there one the www trying to make it look like you have to treat pan species or even variety differently which is not true at all. IME once you cracked it you can apply the same method to all the different panaeolus species and varieties.

Agree also. The hardest part for me is pasteurising the sub and casing. Everything else in the process is literally 100% the same as cubes

Kirk, beautiful tubs! So nice, clean and perfect!
They really do have a unique spirit. I hope that more and more people realize this over time. They are virtually a perfect magic mushroom.

Why is pasteurizing harder for you? I use the same “Ultra Pasteurization” method I use for everything: cvg, hpoo/straw, casings.

Load it up in a grow bag, clamp it shut, throw it in the PC, bring it up to pressure for 3 minutes for cvg and casings and 5 minutes for anything with straw. Turn the burner off and let it slow cool. Works beautifully

I just need to refine my methods that’s all. I have a bit of a ghetto sous vide set up involving a 35L tote, a wire basket and some barbell weights which is a pain in the ass.

I’ve recently invested in an instapot though so gunna jar some up and give that a try on the keep warm function.

It worked great for a batch of LC I made recently on the PC setting. Just throw them in, set for about 30-40 mins (as it only gets up to about 11-12psi) and walk away!
