Made a post but think I'll post here as it seems fitting.

Going to try out my pan cyan spore print and utilize my martha tent, however I had to place my tent in the shed where it can drop quite a bit in temperature.

Any ideas how to maintain a good temp for my fruiting chamber. Was thinking I will put my martha tent inside a slightly bigger grow tent and shove a space heater and lights in there and attempt to insulate my martha tent with bubble wrap or something (but would co2 be an issue with this?)... or maybe try to use ceramic heat lamps.

Some wisdom would be appreciated.

Do you know if there’s more results on those Pan mystery South Africa?

That’s a last year picture but I have a colonized jars in FC now so fingers crossed!
Pan mystery South Africa

I didn’t notice this post until now. One thing I recalled about my first mystery coast grow (thanks Zifo) was that they had very clear lines around the cap - as if the cap was translucent on the edge and the gill structure was showing through. However the lines go all the way up the cap - faintly. I zoomed in on yours and there were the lines!

Zoom in on these for similar features:

Way back when I sent JCM some dried Wild Coast fruits that he was going to pass on to someone for microscopy and genetic sequencing…
I never heard back from him about that. I worry about ol JCM. If anyone knows what he’s up to and if he is Ok please let me know!

Can you run an electric heater in there on a temp controller? That is pretty much the only way I roll with a tent, otherwise you fight FAE and condensation issues.

I do have a thermostat for my heaters but wouldn't it be constantly on since the surrounding environment is cold and wouldnt contain the heat?

I did toy with putting the heater in the tent but I dont think water from the humidifier would be a good mix with electronics.

That's why I was thinking doing "Russian dolls" with tents may be able to hold the heat in...

Can you insulate your shed? I doubt a grow tent has much R-value by itself. How cold is it going to get outside where you're at? I've fruited bisporus outdoors when it was in the 60s at night. (16 to 18 degrees C)

Its winter here atm... I could wait till it gets warmer but it still dips to 15c during some summer nights. Currently it can get as low as 5 degrees celsius during night time.

In an ideal world I would insulate and convert my shed to a grow space but limited funds. I think I'll have to try my tent inception and try wrap the outer tent in something... dunno.

I understand completely. If you have the tents already, you might as well try it and see how it works. Summertime should work for you if it doesn't this winter. I think a heater could keep a shed warm enough on a 15 degree C night without running too much. I wish you the best of luck! Keep us posted on how it works!

Thank you Asura and ruawakeyet... Just repeated the germination plates following your advice. :swab: Sterilize the loop once, pick up some spores, then streak on 4 successive GWA plates. I'll post the results when they pop up.

I have seen people use water in a small tray with an aquarium heater in the water to heat their tent, you just want to make sure you don't run out of water or the heater will burn/melt the plastic tray is sitting in.  Put this tray at the bottom of your martha so the heat rises up, I'm not sure if it will maintain temps but you could try it, seems a little safer than the electric heater and certainly less power consumption.

I find this fascinating, the variation in profile among each pan depending on where it comes from, I started some brooksville after reading this .

Pan cyan Brooksville is the best. #1 in my list. It gives very deep trip and beuatifull visual environment.

Next one is Bayou - also creates beautiful environment.

NecD and PHV is also good.

Every pan cyan has its special profile and depends on the origin it comes from. For example Texas and Senguiou are from Mexico and are quite hard in trips. Brooksville and Bayou are from more green and soft climate and gives more "blue/green" soft experience.

I didn't try bisporus and mistery - hope will try soon.

Sterlized q-tips work best for this. Didn't realize you were using a loop. Not sure if the method will work or not.

Some of my cake pans have fruited with brown caps and some with white. Does that mean anything?

They were most likely grown from different LC’s (both from the same spore print) but I’m a bad scientist and didn’t keep track

I’ve got sterile cotton swabs and lots of GWA. I will try that tomorrow and let you know if there is a big difference.

Anyone have tips for cloning pans. The stems are very small and seem to be very difficult to cut in half without lots of handling. Inviting lots of contams.

Example of last plates that came out terrible!

I was told to use a few pairs of sterile tweezers, one to split open the stem and one set to grab a piece of tissue. I believe Baba Yaga also has just put a full piece of tissue (exterior as well as interior of stem) onto water agar and then made transfers of the myc that grows out past the contamination.

fwiw, going back to spore works great as well, the fresher the print the better IME

Throw some tissue on water agar then transfer to regular agar after it grows out a bit
