Does the casing material *really* matter when it comes to pans as much as the substrate does?

I know that pans are wood/straw/dung lovers (or at least thats the most popular sub)  and the casing mix (that I have from a kit) is peat, verm, and some sort of calcium -ate.

Normally for my cubes I use my CVG (worm dirt) as my bulk sub AND casing.

Being the lazy fuck I am, I already have a bucket of worm dirt mixed up.  I *can* PC the peat mix for casing if it will give me a greater chance of success.  But if I can get away with tossing a layer of worm dirt as a casing layer, I will.

(Note)
Chances are I am going to try to case with my bucket  mix as well unless someone tells me that it will burst into flames of trich and lipstick mold.

I think the casing is way more about the structure than composition. I imagine most things will work as long as they dont contam easily. I've even tried Clay casing before. It won't give you a great pinset but it won't completely prevent pinning either.

Got my temps up to 77, RH mid 90’s, and the tray keeps putting out sporadic fruits.

New pins, but a bunch these are curling around. Is that indicative of anything?

Caps are getting discolored as well.

Any tweaks I can try?

Sometimes I get this as well and think this is contam related, others say genetics. Haven't figure it out yet so .
I usually try to have a few different culture lines going on agar to have other options on hand when this happens.

I agree with this. Had great results with just vermiculite or even no casing can work. The only thing is that each material is a little bit different, IMO it's like driving different cars, they all are functioning on the same principle but will need some getting used to/tuning in/getting into the groove.

What is your FAE looking like?  (Fresh air exchange)

You have the temps and humidity in a decent spot are they getting enough breathe?

I have a 350 gallon per hour air pump, and two 125 gallon per hour air pumps running through 4 large air stones through heated water in the bottom of the FC. That should change all the air in the FC about 10 times per hour. In addition I have a small fan that blows across the perforated top of the FC one minute every 90 minutes.

Would you harvest these all at the same time?  I'm trying to understand why but it seems like some clusters grow much bigger before turning dark/dropping spores and others turn dark when they are much smaller.  Maybe casing depth at different areas of the tray?  Some caps open up at much shorter height and others grow to be taller.  These are t0-t1 from spore bvi's.

The last two images are close ups of the smaller mushrooms from picture 1 towards the center and front, but they look like they're just smaller but still near maturity.

These were fruited in a bath tub with a humidifier going on and off, not much fresh air exchange at all, I'm about to switch to a tent with air exchange so I have more space and can free up my bathroom but I  am curious If I'll see different results with more air exchange.

I'd guess that was due to a contam.

Slow growing... But the grow room hit 11C two days ago.
First round of tubs - now 12 days old

2nd round went to bulk today. 1:2 - sub is coir/verm with about 15% dung and some gypsum because I have.

Back to waiting.

Thought i'd put this in here as well but basically my JCM setup seems to be raining inside and saturating the substrates - I'm worried the drops could land on any early forming pins as well.

Thinking of rigging up some kind of dubtub setup to give it some more head room

any thoughts??

Heya Psilo.... Those bisbo look very nice. Trip report later maybe??
Hey Timestop!! Those trays look great!! Are they strong?
I took all my old pan bisbo grain and put it outside. Mixed it up in a big bag of nice old horse manure. Tossed a plastic bag over top of it. I'll continue to put strictly pans in that particular bag. We'll see what happens. Hurry up and wait right!?
I hope y'all are having a good week so far!! I'm back in the gym and it's kicking my ass but in a good way. Until next time....
