Iām reading about all these stalled grain jars with pans, is it just that sensitive to contamination? Do they need more oxygen to finish colonizing towards the bottom, or quick senescence due to cell division/over expanding?

Hey AspectOfTheCreator,
I know your pain man... I haven't found that "pan-groove" yet either. Sorry that your cultures haven't worked out (yet).
As I mentioned before, I think what I call "Cube-eyes" is a thing that makes growing Pans hard.

So I had a jar at about 90-95% that stalled. Someone (I forget who) suggested give the lid a little crack and I remembered that had actually worked for me in the past. I had a reishi jar at a similar stage.
As if by magic they colonised within the next three-ish days and i'm about to spawn. Probably my lid design or lack of GE but it worked

Kind of wish that was the case. Regardless of how things look, they always just stall. Ive put all types of different looking cultures to grain. They all just stall. To be fair though I think the grain/manure jars hold much more promise. The cambos went bad. Im sure I used an unsatisfactory cylture. I got more going now with a better looking culture. The BVI have fully colonized both jars.
Hoping the next 2 cambo and 2 bvi grain/manure jars will completely colonize.

Yea, I did. Afaik though its mostly for cloning. It helped me get clean cultures but not anymore than just germinating and transferring. Also didnt help with stalling on agar. Only thing that solved that was swapping to grain water agar. I dont know if contam is even the issue. The jars dont seem to contam, they just stop growing.

They were so close.

One piece metal lid with gasket. 1/4" hole with SFD sticker over it.

That black dot on the one is from a sharpie. I put a dot each time the sfd sticker is used so I know how many cycles its been through.

Did you try giving the lid just a little crack? That worked for me when mine stalled at that stage - finished up within 3 days

No. I took your advice and did it 10 minutes ago because why not. Will be a major breakthrough for me if that works.

I use 1/4' hole but with micropore.
I just wonder if the GE needs to increase a lot before completion and if its unable to properly respire it just stops
Who knows - let us know how you get on - fingers crossed they finish

Water agar works great for cloning, clean up and starting spores.
Good luck!

This ttbvi mini tray is filling in wonderfully. Big thanks to the guys consistently sharing information in this thread. Yall know who you are. The true inspiration. Adas, hindsight, joc, asura, yosh, baba yaga, mycocolorado, stonesun, that one guy who does bispos in tubs with killer grow just to mention a few.
Waiting to see some spore deposit looking close though. Been running the fogger for 10 min on 60 off. Fruiting outside in some hot ass weather 70s at night and high 90s in the day. Today was pretty hot so I cycled the humidifier a little more than the named cycle maybe a extra 3 10 min fogs within 3 hours. Cased at full Colo and directly into fruiting. Primordia 3 days in and we are 2.5 days after first pins were seen. They seem to move extremely fast in the hot weather and a nice even casing gave me a pretty killer pinset. Spores to agar and spore plate to grain and snagged some t1s to keep culture.
Need to still hone in my agar game but were making progress. Grew pans one time 3 years ago and just got back into growing about 2 months ago. Happy with the result. Thanks everybody.

How does this Pan bisporus look. I am a newbie to pans. I got a spore syringe from trusted vendor. I was very faint at best on agar....went straight spore syringe to brf style cake.(manure/verm). Also did syringe to agar to grain. It looks very off white. Large jar is healthy pan peace river for comparison.
It looks very suspect and not worth fooling with?
After this grow I decided to not mess with spore syringes again. I get much better results from prints all around.

Cools stuff mate
Since you had great success with your tubs+bubbler setup I am keen to hear your opinion on how this compares to your martha grows once you gathered some more experience with it.

Pan cambos. Fruiting at spawn in unmodded 27q tub. Used the only half pint jar I had ready from mss. It's been 9 days. Should I case this with peat or should I leave it go to consolidate more and not case it at all?

Each grain/manure jar made 1 perfect 2" deep shoebox. Spawned the 2 jars to 3 qts cvg total. Field capacity was perfect. Used 0.5 qt cvg each as a top layer. Didnt tamp down. Just evened things out lightly with a grout float. "Unlatching" lids from beginning.
