Why not just take small wedges/squares from your final dish & inoculate slants. (I would make more than 1)

i could. and i might if you think that more wise. i just thought a drop of li through an injection port on a dish might help guarantee cleanliness. although im not TOO worried. all my plates so far seem fine through normal transfer.. just thought the extra precaution might help for a master. please forgive my noobishness of agar.

I'd say that's about 30% colonized, time for fruiting!!
What does your SGFC setup look like, is it gonna get indirect sunlight or artificial light?

Yeah I hear you man, too much work. I'm not thrilled about making a new one myself. The mini mono sounds like a good idea, I'll have to give it a try.
Are you gonna prop the trays up off the perlite for better airflow throughout the tub? Also, how do you go about prepping your perlite so it doesn't dry out?
Last time I did cakes, I just rinsed it really good as described in the RR videos and scooped it up into the tub. Should I be soaking it instead?

The tray is already propped up off the perlite, using a metal ring from my jars. Its just hard to see in the pic.
I just pour my perlite into a colander and rinse under cool water for 5mins or so.. Let it drain completely. (sometimes I swing the entire colander up and down to help get the water to the bottom) You dont want any pooling water in your FC. After that its good to go!

Okay cool thanks!!
My guess is that my SGFC was poorly constructed, it had too many holes that were really close together, which allowed too much air in. I'll make sure to space them out to 2" all around with my next tub.

so my pan jamaica jars look off. i was able to take a closer look today. some of the jars were not fully colonized. also, i was about to chunk all of them. i opened one up to spoon out and clean the jar. it smelled like nice pan mycelia. so im going to spawn all of them and hope for the best. im assuming utter failure on those. i let most of these jars go too long by 7-14 days. so im assuming failure as well.
im cooking some poo now.
