I got some wide mouth half pints of pan cambos on wbs and some jars of pan cyans ready for a spawn run. The cambos were from a mss. I'm not sure if my grain was a little dry but they took 2 months to colonize. Not sure if they will stay in a tub or move to a tent. I guess whatever I have ready. First attempt at any pans.

dude its my first attempt at pan cambo too, coming from cube,

before putting those jars to spawn run you might wanna get a second opinion on them.

@technique1, those jars don’t look good, bottom left definitely bacterial, too and bottom right looks like maybe some mycelium in there but those look like a lost cause to me.

@aspect, the manure/grain spawn looks good, maybe a tad too wet though, it can still work like that but if you go do it again in the future a bit dryer on the manure will help better colonization. Manure should be under field capacity, absolutely no water dripping when squeezed as hard as possible. Mainly want to avoid pooling which can happen as the mycelium grows through with wetter manure.

Edit:
@pesa, shake at 50 is fine, I usually do mine way earlier for masters, when agar wedge has grown out like a half inch. Otherwise maybe 20% or so.

Nah you’ll be ok, sometimes recovery can look fuckey but good cultures should recover just fine.

For example pan bisporus:
Pre shake:

Post shake recovery:

Fully colonized:

As long as the spawn doesn’t look absolutely trashed it’s can still be good. I wish I had pictures of spawn that looked bad after shaking but still performed fine. Maybe someone else has a picture. I’ll keep it in mind next time I come across it.

recovery looks nice, not too scary, i just shook all my jars going post pics when they recover and its mycelium will always be webby, so use to cube mycelium thick and fluffy.

Yeah don’t over think it too much. It’s a big change from cube mycelium so just takes some time to get acquainted with it. Looking back your millet jar looks like it’s got a wet spot that looks a bit off, milo jar looks great and what I would expect. But you’ll know soon enough. Shaking can be a good thing too to bring to light anything that could be hiding.

I’ll also say when I use milo I don’t run into poor recovery nearly as much as when I use a larger grain like oats. Couldn’t tell you why though.

This is a photo of spawn that didn't recover nicely but worked great nonetheless.

I thought you might have had a pic of a jar like that, couldn’t remember though. The man always comes in clutch.

I'm going to put them in seperate containers. The bottom left and far right are the pan cyans and were just knocked up about 2 weeks ago. So they may be undercolonized as they were just shook recently. The middle picture in the wide mouth is the cambo jar, which like I said, took two months from a mss, but I can't find one piece of grain that doesn't have at least a spot of mycelium on it and this stuff doesn't seem to look like cube mycelium at all since it's thinner and spotty. I guess I'll know when I open the jars tomorrow. Fingers crossed. The pan cyan lc was tested on agar and came out clean. My sterile technique is pretty cautious other than using a small room or SAB. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the heads up.

Honestly, mine looks similar on the cambos but seems a little thicker and fluffier in spots. Maybe I'll knock up a few quarts of rice too. People have me scared now and I wanna through everything I got at the wall until it sticks.

Do you use tubs or a martha setup? Just curious about your pics.

Heard, it could be the picture that distorts what I’m looking at, mostly commenting on what appears to be lots of wet spots and funky grains in there from what I can see. If what I’m seeing is correct that thing is gunna smell funky, so could be fine.

I run tubs.

Maybe it's the coffee in with the seed. Idk. Are those unmodified tubs and what size? I was considering using an unmodified for spawning with aluminum cake pans filled with manure and straw since my ez dials holes are further above the pans than what I'd like. Then case with peat and vermiculite.

Do you get nice sized stems in the tubs or are they really small and thin?

I've also wanted to try out this grain, but here in the Netherlands this stuff is quite a bit more expensive than rye. I couldn't find a good source either.. sold under different names.. with hulls without hulls... sometimes not mentioned at all.. and decided to go for rye again. Rye is my go-to grain, maybe if I find a good millet source I'll try.

Hello everyone
I have a question: after pinning, what is more advantageous, to increase or decrease the FAE.

Thanks

If you are getting pins, I would keep the FAE the same. I certainly would not decrease it, unless things are getting too dry and you have no ability to increase the humidity.

Update on my outdoor bisporus patch: It turned out to be my best flush of anything ever! They were all shorter than I was hoping for, but I'm not surprised considering the humidity has been a little lower than they prefer. Harvesting has been a pain in the back and legs, as I have over 3 hours so far today, and I'm only at about 80% harvested.

whitebelt, LED strips should work just fine. I've used a single daylight LED bulb on 12/12 successfully, and I've seen lots of growers use LED strips as well. Ambient room light could also work, depending on how much light comes in the window(s). I prefer to keep my curtains closed for privacy, and rely on artificial lighting.

Holy shit Rua!!!! This is goals right here! Awesome work buddy!

Each container is about 4L. So I'm hoping for many fruits
