Are Australia pans harder to grow? I have a spore print from Gordo on the way I’m hoping to have better luck

My experience with Australians was very finicky, for me they have been the least forgiving overall. Granted they were the pans I learned on so take that with a grain of salt. Probably culture dependent too. That being said they are still my least consistent pan I have fruited, they consistently fruit but the variance is still relatively high in fruit quality. I’ve been working with the RDU variation as well so perhaps that has played a role. All that being said when they do work well they work great in my opinion.

Baba Yaga said: Depends on what texture this will give you. The main thing s to keep it from getting muddy & soggy. In my experience if you use well field aged manure then you can add more of it as most of the fines and stuff that makes it muddy got washed out. You could use 100% manure if the texture is alright. You will have to test this out, see what your manure is like and adjust by adding coir, straw or verm. Leaving it a bit under field capacity can help as well.
Baba its a request, dude you need to some how nail down your ratio, eye balling something from your pics is not easy.
i love the pointer for not getting muddy and soggy.
in cube school of shroomery, 100% coir works, 50% coir to 50% verm works, hell i been using composted pine wood and eucalyptus wood in all my grows it works more cheaper than coir on my side of the world.
i got cow manure it looks like dirt and coir going to experiment.
thanx for all the input guys.

Is there a minimum temperature I should be keeping my inoculated agar plates at (and subsequent grain spawn jars)?
I have a fruiting chamber for cubes at around 22C (71-72F) — is that too cool for pan cyans on agar and grain?
Not worried about fruiting temps at this stage...

Squeeze out as much water as possible from coir and horse manure. I prefer using a 200-mesh bag to extract excess water from the horse manure and coir. Combine equal parts coir and horse manure by volume, using a quart jar for initial measurement. Scale the quantities accordingly for future batches.
Water agar cloning is the way to go for anyone seeking to clone pans. Simply split the stipe and place it carefully on water agar, taking precautions to minimize any movement on the agar plate. Allow the plate to grow for 7-14 days, and then perform a clean transfer. Cant get easier than that.
Sometimes pins begin to grow from split stipes on water agar:

As per another users recommendation im going to try nocing up jars of 1:1 grain:manure with agar. Is this likely to succeed?
I've managed to get several jars going, possibly completed. Its very difficult to tell if a jar is fully colonized with pan myc. Atleast it is when using wbs.

You are more likely to succeed by using grain only. Try to find rye on sale and use that.

After months of failing to get clean spawn, then getting too busy with life to pasteurize bulk and clean a grow tent after finally getting clean spawn, I used some healthy bisporus spawn to attempt an outdoor bed.
I finally see pins, and lots of them today!!! I hope the pill bugs and snails/slugs don't get them before they're ready to pick! I checked yesterday and didn't see anything!

I hope to have more pictures once they mature in a couple of days!

Thanks!
This week will be mid eighties for the highs, (~30 C), and low to mid 60s for the lows, (~18 C). Chances of showers or thunderstorms every day and night, but the rain has usually been missing me the past few weeks.
I've been using collected rain water from a watering can every couple of days to keep the bed moist. Despite not getting much rain lately, the humidity outside is 61% right now. If I ever get a decent rain, the humidity should be boosted to around 80%+ for a day or so.
The bed is located on the North side of my house, so it stays in the shade all day long.

If I want to try some Pans, should I go with cyan or bisporus? Is one easier to grow than the other? Which is stronger?

Why not both?! I haven't consumed any bisporus yet, but I can't wait, the time is near. The cyans that I have had were outstanding IMO. From what I've gathered, it partly depends on the culture you end up fruiting. I've read that bisporus tends to be a little slower to fruit indoors, but the fact that this is fruiting outdoors in sub prime conditions tells me it's hardy.
I don't think you can go wrong with either one, as long as you choose a variety that is commonly grown. Some varieties that I wouldn't recommend for a first time pan grower would be the mystery South Africa; Jamaica as it tends to want to overlay a lot; and Peace River (Florida) has proven to be really difficult for me personally.
I think they're all quite strong, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

It’s more which to prioritize souring spores/cultures. Seeing that a sponsor is having a Memorial Day sale, I took advantage and grabbed a cyan culture they have. I hope to get some bisporus spores or culture next.

After so much trial and failure just want to put it out there again that grain water agar seems to be the way to go with Pans. Went from 100% of my plates stalling to 0%.

Hey Aspect,
That is some good looking growth. Is the middle one an example of the powdery growth you mentioned recently.
Good luck

It looks like it but not exactly. The powdery growth I had previously was on LMA after having stalled for awhile it would show up. It looks similar but those plates are still growing. The other stuff was also less uniform. Tried to show all types of cultures there. Dont know how theyll be with grains yet.
