Mystery pan I found on my roof in a container outside last fall was recently printed and I grew a tray. Originally thought to be bisporus looks to be another type of pan or copelandia under microscope. Just posted the images here
P cyanofibrillosa is a pan I was asked to keep an eye out for which is native to PNW. Any ID hounds, please have a look - the spore pics are kind of pretty.

Alan Rockefeller has commented on the thread now and he thinks could be new species, saying it's copelandia, not panaeolus. Or says could be an east coast pan which could have made its way out here.

cool news, Sarah Tonin. definitely keep us updated on your progress.
and i've been noticing that some taxonomy experts tend to still use copelandia when referring to the active pans. it seems they're thinking is that panaeolus is a separate family of inactive mushrooms from the blue staining/active copelandias. i still prefer the name panaeolus though.

... Because I want to be cool like you guys (and gals) when I grow up.
Also... just a thank you to the Fantastic Mr. Fox who set me up with my first pan cyan print way back when. I did a (kinda) successful grow made a few prints but then it contaminated before a decent second flush and I've just let my Cube bias lord over me and didn't bother doing another pan grow.
But NO MORE! I will shake off the Shackles of Cube and do another pan grow or three or so
(Fantastic Mr. Fox print all growed up) :

Nice psilo!
So pans are inactive and copes are active? When did they decide this?

I have no idea what you mean about pans vs copes?
I was making a joke about how cubes are more popular. I think Panaelous and Copelandia are two names for the same type of mushroom... resulting from a scientific reclassification at some point (I think). https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panaeolus_cyanescens
You were finding pans growing wild last time we chatted.

You're correct, for example Copelandia Cyanescens and Panaeolus Cyanescens are one and the same.

Do pans knot before fruiting like cubes do? Hard to see because of the casing layer, but I was wondering if they do anything similar before pinning.

Spawned my first pan totes last night. Didn't have any manure on hand so I just used cvg.

Pan jam fully colonized (cased with jiffy mix)

6 days later, pins! (lots of fae, misted/fanned a few times a day)

Blurry side shot

Any tips on what I should do now? From what I've read the best thing is to leave it alone. I stopped misting two days ago, right before the pins appeared. Still giving it lots of fae. Is it ok if the surface dries out a bit?

VanHatton-i am watching your project would be really cool if one can do well with Pans on CVG.
Josh-what is your fruiting chamber?
Lookinward-i would continue misting lightly, i stopped misting and had caps dry up and shrivel then abort...light misting is all though just enough to keep the caps moist...

I hate to say it my man, but that doesn't look good. Lots of amber metabolites, and the myc looks really thick and really white....
