From my personal experience, I highly recommend using unmodified monotubs for growing pans. By utilizing agar and a still air box, the process can be made nearly foolproof and doesn't require expertise to succeed. Work smarter, not harder.

Lol. What was your point when you quoted that specific post? Someone already posted link before my post to unmodified monotub guide.https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27637997/vc/1
Just because I don't post pictures here often, doesn't mean that I don't know how to grow pans .

Welp, I'm all but giving up trying to grow pan myc on 1% LMEA. It stalls out at about the size of a quarter every single time. I've tried both Pan Cambo and BVI. Going to try grain soak water agar from WBS. I'm assuming I'll need to dilute the grain water but by what ratio? Any ideas/suggestions?

I like to use undiluted rye grain water for agar. Works better than MEA for me.

So I am eyeing pans as my next myco-challenge. I have access to copious amounts of elk poo this time of year. Any thoughts on using properly prepared elk poo for pans?

Sorry for the quality but I tried to take a couple pictures of my agar. Seems to be nice and white and slightly fluffy. Tried 1 with flash and 2 w/o How's it look? Also question. When I used condiment cups for agar I'd dump most of it or all of it in the grain jar. Are pans the same. I do realize the amount in the jar is too much. But I've used a flame sterilized spoon before. I was kinda planning on same thing. Slice it up and just scoop the top 1/8th inch of agar off the top and drop it. Let's hear whatchu gotta say. Happyy Thursday ya panheads!! πβοΈ

WhiteDemon said: You dont need expensive setups or nothing . You can do Pans in a Monotub. Is the cheapest and easy way. Proven results from hundred of people, with photos and proofs. I am doing pans with BRF jars to bulk in monotub , will upload pics in a couple of weeks
Check this : Pans in Monotub 3.0
I havent seen any beginner who has no experience in agar/genetic work who grown a decent amount of pans in a monotub. the experts who work years on that can do it but for beginners its not a proven tek at all.
What begginers? What experts? Where have you seen them? You are in the largest mushroom growing forum. And here you can see the proofs of opposite.
What do you mean by "experts who have been growing for many years" , who and how many people are you referring to? Are they more than the people who have published their grows with proof of success?

I'm also curious about this. I've got some elk poop I collected leeching in the yard right now. I was just going to play around with cubes, but pans would be better.

Hey friends, I would just like your guidance on something please!! Questions are in bold, the rest is context <3
I have been trying to grow Pan Cams for the past 2 months and struggled for a very long time to get it to grow on agar without stalling after a week or two of really slow growth. This first picture with the yellow plate it typical of the growth pattern and texture I was getting, with thick, marshmallow-like mycelium that seemed to grow up off the plate first, and then slowly outwards:

However, after many transfers I got a plate that looks like this red one, with more wispy, rhizomatic growth, which is growing much quicker. I made the yellow and red transfers on the same day, just to contextualize the difference in size:

My question is: do you think I accidentally mixed up some plates and this is actually GT, Maza, or APE? I've been growing those in tandem, mostly investing time into the Maza's (got my first pins today C:). I've really been diligent about labeling things so I am fairly confident that they are Pan Cams, it's just been a rather drastic change in the structure and speed of growth, and am wanting clarification on whether this is a normal transition after a progressive series of transfers.
