If colonization looks good/clean then it is best to let pans finish on their own once they are colonized more than 50%. Often the recovery after a late shake can look off or bacterial although it's perfectly fine and it happens more the later you shake. Point is though that one can't really tell the difference between a good bag and a bad bag anymore once that happened and all that is left to do to find out is try fruiting it.
This is what the other bag was looking like before I mixed it up.

Did you make the grain and/or LC yourself?
I lean towards not OK. Colonization hasn't progressed that much altogether so if your other bag looked like that before the shake then I don't think that what I said in my first reply does apply in this case.
But go ahead and see what happens just for the experience.
The photo is not great btw.

Keep in mind, I'm looking at tiny pictures on my phone.
That said, Tucky, those grains look funky from here. Both the before and after photos. If you look at the before photos, your grains have a halo look to them, dark center and heavy mycelium around them.
Nautious1, I don't like the uncolonized spots and your mycelium growth seems thick. If those spots haven't filled in within a day or two, go ahead and case. Keep an eye on them though, if you have other grows, maybe even isolate? Hopefully I'm wrong, good luck!

Iβm pretty sure the first bag is jacked, it looks similar in person to when cubes get bacterial. Iβll let it sit a couple days and then cut it open and if there is no bad smell Iβll spawn it.

Got a couple successful grows of BVI and NEC under my belt. Would like to keep it rolling. Any suggestions for what to try next? Seems like kindov a dumb question - just pick one. But what are folk's all time favs?

Not sure where to discuss spore acquisition but this is definitely not a topic for the mushroom cultivation forum.

I think this clone must have very high alkaloid concentrations because of all the βbluingβ. Do you think I should try to find a sector to isolate or just transfer the whole plate to grains?

Happy Friday all you panheads. Everyone looks like they are doing a pretty good job. I have a question for oats. Myself I boil for like 40-45 minutes and load into jars and PC for 90 minutes. Does anybody have a different way they like to do it? I kinda kickin'around trying millet. Hope y'all have a great weekend!! πβοΈ

Here's my latest oat tek: I'll let the bag I have now sit on the shelf or I'll feed it to some horses because I hate oats. If you decide to stick with them, don't forget to get the outside of the grains dry. Spread them out on multiple cookie sheets, or better yet, some kind of screen that lets them dry more completely. Use a fan or fans, and take as long as necessary until they don't stick to your hands anymore. Then you can load them into jars, and I would recommend upping the PC time to 2 hours @ 15 psi. Don't forget to vent the PC once it starts to boil and exhaust steam, I would do at least 20 minutes.
If you don't want to fool with all the grain drying procedure, I'd recommend WBS. The brand I use, (Kroger), doesn't have but a few pieces of corn per bag, and once I scoop out everything that floats, it's basically nothing but milo and millet. (I don't like the black sunflower seeds. They seem to overhydrate and ooze nasty looking stuff once in the jar.) I've found I can steep it for an hour to an hour and a half, drain until no more water drips out, (I do pat the mesh strainer on a towel to get rid of the little bit of water at the bottom.) and then immediately load the jars and follow the same PC times outlined above. They come out looking a little too wet at first, but by the next day they reabsorb the excess moisture. I've had my best results using WBS. Oats might be cheaper, but WBS saves me a lot of time not having to dry the grain after hydrating. If anything, WBS is difficult to achieve full hydration after it's been PCed, but allowing it to steep, even simmer a little bit for at least an hour, seems to achieve full hydration without over hydrating it.
For the money, it's the only grain I want to use.

Millet is a pretty good grain / seed for pans in my book: 2-3 x the inoculation points compared to larger grains like oats or wheat and very easy prep:
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27318708
It doesnβt get easier than that! (But follow the ratio because under hydration leads to very sluggish growth and over hydration is a useless mess.

For oats, put 1 1/3C grain in a quart jar, add 175ml water, put modified lid, foil, toss in PC for 90min. Let cool completely in the PC then in SAB shake the grains starting by smacking on the lid to dislodge grain puck. Inoculate, shake again and wait.
Millet is good and easy to prep too!

I used producers pride oats. Going A2G, the pan myc downright refused to jump off onto the oats every single time. That same myc colonized wbs no problem.
