Mystery pan from SA on BRF puck.
Plus bisporus on low-prep millet.

I tried cloning a few BVI fruits and I got this weird liquid goop that formed where I tried to inoculate the agar. I did it inside of a SAB and I tried to get tissue from the inside of the stem. I'm assuming this isn't normal and it's some kind of contamination. Could this be mycelium metabolites from fighting off a contamination?

Unfortunately, that is bacteria. You could try using water agar for cloning. It can help by not providing a food source for the bacteria to thrive, and let's the mycelium outrun it. Cloning pans is not the easiest thing to do by any means, so give it another go!

Cool, thanks for the advice. I tried to do a couple more yesterday but if they turn out the same maybe I'll switch it up

First time with Pan Cyans (mexico var jalisco) - do these look ok? I'm not sure what to make of the solid/matted areas. Those areas showed up roughly halfway into colonization, and the mycelium seemed to happily continue to grow around these blotches without blotches expanding. Grain was more wet than I normally like. Not sure if you can see tops are fairly matted.
Is this a normal pan thing or am I dealing with possible bacteria? If these smell ok when I open the jars, would you recommend continuing to substrate etc or.. ?

IMO, those jars look bacterial, but I've never grown Jalisco Pans specifically. Are those oats? I've sworn off using oats, they've gone bacterial on me every time.
If you have plenty of bulk substrate and want to roll the dice, you could go ahead and use that spawn. At least if you don't have anything else going right now. If your bulk is limited in supply, I would think twice about using it.
If it makes you feel any better, I have 15 mycoquarts of bacterial oat spawn that I'm about to throw on the compost pile. I thought about spawning a couple of jars to a tray just to see what would happen, but I don't really feel like taking the time to pasteurize for nothing. Plus I'm busy as shit right now, so I've switched back to WBS instead of oats, and will just move on and see how it goes.

yes, mostly oats, some rye. hmm I think I'll toss 'em. I've got 10 more grain jars inoculated with a different plate of jalisco agar and everything looking better on them - grain was more dry to start on those. And yes, I agree, oats are not my fav, I think they're ok if you get em dried out enough before PC but I have a bulk bag of organic rye on order at local coop, for me seems easier to get consistent results on rye. Never tried WBS.
and ... yeah that does make me feel better sorry for your loss!

Pan Jam, set and forget unmodded tub, flush one

this worked pretty good but took a lot longer than my other tub to pin, not sure if it was culture or environment though, I think more air might've made them pin sooner, but mostly morphology was ok with a few very decent size individuals
the other tub I pic'd some days back put out 152g second flush then trich started turning up, so yeah was like just over 250g from a quart of spawn, not great I'm sure, but I am happy to be getting some numbers on the board
I had taken three dishes of clone and a half dozen prints from the last Jam tub, but all three dishes are completely overrun with bacterial goop. I dunno how that is possible from inner stipe material but I am gonna try again with a fruit from this tub I reckon I'll come back with some more stuff in a bit, have some Bisporus starting up it's first pins just now
good times fellas

Some fatties in there Nef, nicely done.
Try cloning to water agar next time around.

Thanks fellas for the encouragement
yes, the water agar. I always forget that part of the toolkit Baba
Due another pour tomorrow so I will surely make a few water plates if not a whole sleeve I can keep off to the side ready to go
And yes they were tested last week Shrimps but I have another one lined up for tomorrow night probably. Did 33g wet last time, was underwhelming at first and then sorta peaked very strong and very late, was pretty good in the end. Think I will probably wade in a bit deeper this time, I think 33 wet is maybe only like a dry sixteenth of an ounce or something right, so more is probably called for I guess lol
I will surely let you know how it goes mate
nice one

Nice work Nef. In addition to Baba's suggestion, you can also try a mini PF cake. These days I put clones straight to tiny PF cakes in little 4oz mason jars. I basically use them in place of agar plates. I put the clone tissue over to a side and wait until it's grown out almost to the opposite side and then take a tiny little piece of the cake from there and transfer it to a regular plate or LC.

This is my experience too. All my hollow stipe transfers were overrun so I have been mostly using spores. I think bacteria can thrive in hollow stipes so the transfer needs to be of the tissue between the walls, which is an insane target, even with fine point tweezers.

Very nice work, Nef I gotta read up on the monotub tek I'd love to run some
____________
I'd say aside from the bacteria, this tray of Jambos turned out decent Wondering if the old, dirty water in my jcm is the source. Meant to change it out before running these, but time got away from me

Do these look safe to eat (pan cyan BVI). Theyβve discolored pretty quickly. Itβs the fourth flush and things are starting to get geriatric.

That looks like a sur la table air frier tray! Nothing wrong with a little discoloration on your pans, but I've never seen those spots before in my grows, even in the later flushes. The uniformity of them makes me think they aren't problematic. Even if it was bacteria, dehydration should kill anything there and making a tea out of it would further ensure no risk in consumption.
