Yeah kinda suprised how that funky looking jar preformed after I spawned it xD Just hope the green devile doesn't come this time
Gladly I got a clean clone from the mini nec-d pins from my contaminated grow. Going to grain maybe in a week or two ;-)

Yea Bisporus is weird on grain but after spawning to bulk turns into a beast, eating mold for breakfast and all that. Love it.

Since Iβve never harvested pan cyans before, and recently learned that not all pan cyan caps flatten out at maturity, can someone please advise whether these are ready to be picked? My hunch says yes, but Iβm a total novice here.

There is a bug today on the site causing that.
Those look ready. I usually wait until I start to see the faint hint of spores falling down onto the lower caps from the higher caps, and that's when I harvest. Darkening of the caps is a good indicator too, which I am seeing in those pics.

Is there a way to search just this particular thread, I'm sure the answer is in here several times.
I'm wondering what agar recipes you all are using for pans. I have some plates made up with 1.5% Malt extract and a little bit of nutritional yeast (0.1%), myc is certainly growing but I think its too thick.
The user, Ruawakeyet, said he is using 1% MEA with his pans and getting less tomentose/thick growth.
Anyone using peptone in their mix?

With pan mycelium, you want it to grow thin so you can see what's going on. Skip the yeast, peptones, etc. Grain water agar is where it's at. 7 parts distilled water to 3 parts grain water is what I use.

1% LME, even used 0.5% at times. Below you can see both concentrations side by side. 0.5% are the plates with the greenish tint.
Doesn't seem to make a real difference.

I will follow suit on the grain water, that looks good and much more visible, thanks hindsight.

Thanks Baba Yaga, What did you use to color the plates? I have seen people saying to avoid food coloring due to additives but coloring some how would be helpful to differentiate my plates intended for pans from other plates. I could just keep them separate but curious what you used.

I used some random liquid food color from the baking aisle. Sorry but the bottle is so old that the label came off and since I'm not US based a brand name would probably be useless anyway. Doesn't need much to tell different recipes apart, a single drop on 400ml does it for me if necessary, just to give is a different hue. And that is only to tell the no pour plates apart when they are not inoculated, once they have received a transfer I make a mark on the label to tell things apart when running more than one. Doubt that it will do any harm in this concentration but if you are using disposable plates then just mark them somehow after the pour and you don't need the color if in doubt.

Really no need to participate in this if you have found this web site.
JOC knows how to grow pans but the shroomery is free and will give you the same quality of information and even better in some aspects.

Congrats Lefty!
I am in the pan game now.

Shredded a swab dipped in sterile water and put pieces to agar. This is day 6 for the germ plates. The BVI swabs came from a sponsor. Also got a spore syringe of bisporus from a different sponsor yesterday that went to agar last night.
