As my username implies, I’m an old fart that’s just getting started with pan cyans.
I’ve learned a ton from this thread, so thank you to all who’ve contributed. Now it’s time to put this education into action.
I’m curious why the mycelium in these two jars are vastly different even though they’re both pan cyans. The jar on the left is BVI, the one on the right is Estero.
From your experience, is one better (healthier, stronger, etc) than the other, or just different?

Hey yo there old fart!!! I'm an old dog trying to learn new tricks too man!!! Bwahaha Welcome here my friend. Nice to"meetcha" There's a shit ton of good people here sharing great information. Failure and successful grows!!! I'm trying to get in the pan game myself. I haven't had a successful harvest of the ancient fruit yet but I'm trying!! Good luck to you. To all the rest of you panheads out there... Happy Saturday!!! 😎✌️

I'm so excited my T1 looks so good. Pan cyan 'Estero'. Tough to get pictures with the deli cups.

Restarting cultivation after 6 years or so, and going with panaeolus print, (goliath) from 2015. Just poured some petri dishes (black agar) Gonna go through spore->agar->cleaning->LC->grain spawn bags->trays route. Wish me luck.

if you don't sterilize substrate to inoculate directly with lc why don't you just make a g2g from a master jar ?

I'll do. I'll inoculate big bags of substrate with LC. (Bags containing a mixture of grains, coco, fine-milled wheat straw, cow manure and calcium carbonate powder) Also will do some othet combos and routes in parallel (like skipping LC). Since it's my first try with panaeolus.

I'll be interested if that roughly 8 year old print is still viable. Pan spores don't last any where near as long as cube spores, but I'm hoping for you!

does anyone have any idea why my nec d fruits look derpy? they are bending over and curving all around. i don't think that's blotch on the caps. i think my fogger has been spraying water on the caps. also i'm pretty sure i'm getting enough FAE. my jambos grow in the same FC and they don't look like this at all.

it's a clone. this is the first flush. i did 3 trays of this clone and all 3 trays look like this. it's not 100% of the fruits that look derpy, it's more like 90%. hmmmm i don't know about the microclimate idea. there are some normal straight looking fruits scattered throughout the trays.

Is it so? Sad to hear. So I'll make a syringe outa print, to rehydrate spores, and shoot some grains direclty, to increase my chances of successful germination, with added expense of subsequent cleaning on agar.

taking it to a brf puck aint a bad idea either and easier to grab a section to take to agar afterwards. 2 year old cube spores were hell for me to germinate. close to a month and most didnt germ at all.

Back then I germinated 4y old spores from prints without any problem on soft agar, but ofcourse cubes. I assumed spores would germinate no matter their age. Now I'm a little afraid and sad. Wish I started with them years earlier. Anyway, will make a grow-log if I succeed to go all the way to fruiting.

I feel ya. I recently found out that spores of stone producers have an even shorter shelf life. It's sad indeed, but at least the spores can be replaced with fresh ones.

Will be interesting to see if they will contaminate before the second flush. I am still not sure what causes this. It's either contam or genetics IMO.

Could those spottet caps be a sign of bacterial infection?
Edit: spawned now my Bispo Jar to a shoebox. About 1:2 spawn/sub ration and only to composted cowpoo and CVG.

Going to keep it though as Hindsight recommended, closed until fully colonized and it comes into my watertub. Everything was cleaned with hot soapwater and then bleached with 3% h2o2, let it sit for 5 mins and wiped it clean with a paper towel.
Let's see how this comes out ^^

yes, I think hindsight mentioned he uses similar. I'm keeping it closed with no fae until full colonialization. Or at least that's my plan ^^ Or is this a bad idea?

It is OK for NecD isolated cultures. It is hybrid with unstable genetics and some cultures give unexpected results ) I had the same one for several cultures.

Shrimps no, I don't use air-tight lids. Sorry if I wasn't clear. You need to allow your mycelium to get some air. I was saying that I keep my lids on during colonization and try not to open them or remove the lids until full colonization is reached, but my lids have some air gaps in them based on the way they are made, like most tubs, and that allows the air exchange.
I do all my grows with Sterilite purple latch tubs, mostly in the 6qt shoebox size. I run them unmodified.
Don't worry about it though, I would just stick with what you have and pop the lid a bit on one side to create an air gap and it will be just fine. If you want to be extra careful, you could place a larger, clean tote upside down over that one (so the larger tote rests on your table and acts as an umbrella).
Also noticed you said bleached with h202. I should have been more specific - I use sodium hypochlorite. It is more powerful than 3% hydrogen peroxide. I don't use it full strength - I use it in ready-made spray bottles you can get at any grocery store at 2-3% strength (usually sold as shower or bathroom cleaner) but you can mix it yourself from a gallon bottle that they sell for laundry use.
