BUT - quite a lot depends on culture if we want the highest possible result. And the rest also should be ideal )

i'm still experimenting with ideal spawn/sub ratio and depth. i am finding out that executing a flawless pinset is more important than what substrate mixture you use. your fruiting skill is such a HUGE variable and often inconsistent (for me anyway i hope i'm not the only one that has trouble). it's hard to give these things perfect fruiting conditions for a max pinset.

That's some serious fog FriedEgg - You running a 6-disc? I'm running a 3. It has worked well for my standard size martha tent but I might up to a 6 disc at some point.
Pic tax - My latest BVI tray. This is first flush from a clone culture I took about a year or more ago, stored in distilled water vial at room temp. It is feeling very good to finally get some fruiting going on after that gnat infestation.

Thanks Adas! No not at all. They were just as good as the day I put them in storage. I was impressed.

It's a great option - I think dried grains are great too but they take a lot longer to process (the drying part).

Really beautiful Hindsight and glad the water storage worked so well! I've been playing with dried grains recently but have water storage ambitions. Is there a tek or is it as simple as sterilizing distilled water in storage containers and add mycelium when cooled. Do you fill them with water for minimal air bubble?

Nice tray hindsight! Thatβs good news, Iβm hopping on that train as well. Got some vials lying around somewhere, glad to hear they last! Seems like the way to go. Iβve never been a person to do any sort of storage like that so itβs finally time to bite the bullet I think.

Nice BVI. Glad you got rid of those little demons.
I got through this years indoor growing without seeing a single gnat although I kept all doors open. Very unusual.

Thanks Yoshi. Others posted some teks but here is how I do it.
I buy these 2ml vials and the holders from Amazon:

I fill the vials about 2/3 to 3/4 full with distilled water, cap them, put them in the blue holder, set them in the PC and PC for about 10 minutes. Then I just leave them sitting out on the side of my flow hood bench. They come in handy for many things - making spore syringes, dipping my loop into them so I pick up more spores when scraping a spore print, cooling a hot knife in a hurry (when I don't want to dip the knife in agar to cool it because I'm being OCD), etc etc.
Any time I have a clone culture on agar that has grown out on the plate and is looking clean, I just cut a small piece of it out - about the size of a cooked grain of rice, and dump that into one of the vials (all in front of the hood of course). I cap it, label it, then move it to another blue holder that I keep as my culture library and its home is in a drawer (to stay dark).
When I decide to go back to that culture, I just shake the vial up, then either dip a loop in it and streak a plate, or I go in with a syringe and suck a bit of it out and go right to grain, LC, or to plate. I have tried all three and all three work great.
Some of the teks have you trying to scrape more or less pure mycelium and putting it into distilled water - the thought being you don't want any nutrients in the water but I haven't found this necessary. The nutrients from the little piece of agar in there don't seem to cause any issues. Heck, people store regular LC for years and it still works just fine (I mean, most people won't use year+ old LC directly to grains, but you can use a bit of it to inoculate a fresh jar container of LC etc).

Thanks Baba - My Girlfriend moved in and brought like 20 houseplants with her. I think these were the source of the flies. I've been treating the soil of the plants with BT and Spinosad and putting yellow sticky traps around them so hoping that will help lower risks. I also set off a bug fogger in my grow closet after removing all my grow equipment so any flies that land on the floor, walls, or ceiling will die. Have a UV light in there with a sticky board right under it, yellow sticky traps inside and outside the tent for monitoring purposes, and I sealed my door with foam and a bristle floor sweep. It isn't air-tight but I'm certain it will vastly reduce the chances of flies coming in. When my tent vent fan comes on, it will pull air in through the HVAC vent which has a filter on it so that should help too.
