Have you considered getting a repeat cycle timer to allow you much finer control over your cycle durations? Instead of 30 minutes / 60 minutes, you could use 5 minutes / 15 minutes; or 3 minutes / 12 minutes as examples. A repeat cycle timer would let you create any duration you wanted.
Cooleko, I need to snap some pictures real quick and I will make a quick write-up covering how I've been making my chocolates. I will update ASAP.

The species Iβm most attached to is ATL#7, they work perfect with that timing I just donβt want to change my set up every time I change species If i wear to do pans consistently I would probably change to a different timer

I wonder why this does happen to you? Misting pans wasn't and isn't a problem for me 8-9 out of 10 times and when ever a culture aborts after misting then it goes in the bin.
I can give most of the tubs a heavy mist and all is fine.
Just a thought but maybe your unpasteurized substrate is the culprit or have you had the same happen when you pasteurized?

This is the same problem Iβve been having for years and I think is the main reason Iβve never been successful until as of late When I first started cultivating them, I got some great, looking, aged horse manure did all the pasteurization and everything to them, so Iβm not very inclined to think that itβs the store-bought steer manure. I am using now.
Baba if you remember, I sent you some photos of my trays poking out after four days the pins look fantastic and worked out great, but they would just abort and rot off when the stems fully matured

First harvest of Pan Cyans (BVI). They matured while I was traveling.

Anyone know what these copper lines are in these overly aged stipes?

panjam said: Hi all.
I have been thinking about ways to make growing pans even more low tek and low touch.
I experimented with cotton string as a wick to draw water as needed into the casing or the surface of the substrate.
Here are my results:
Pan Cambo Sandose (cloned from a fruit which fruited on agar):
I lay out the strings after full colonisation and then cased it 2 days later with 50/50 peat verm mix with powdered eggshells I added extra strings to it before I cased it
Pan NecD (blind sector):

Cased with the same mix above and then lay strings on top The NecD seems a bit slower than the cambos
For these 2 tubs, I have not misted since seeing pins. I don't think i even needed to mist ever to be honest. The casing always seemed well hydrated. Just plain tap water in the bowls. Both tubs were grain to bulk(straw/poo) on 19/12/22 It is summer here and I just leave the lid cracked with an air purifier in the room and the window a bit open. The box is a 10L/10.5qt Storage tub from officeworks with 36 5mm holes drilled into it.
This is my first successful pan grow excluding pan cambo which fruits pretty easily ime.
I hope this alternative method of fruiting inspires more experimentation and helps someone start their pan journey. I will post updates on the necd tub as it has only started fruiting.
Oh, and make sure the strings on the casing are above the water line, or you will end up siphoning the water out of the bowl.
Here is an update on these boxes
Sandose:

NecD

It seems to be working quite well as a low tech low touch option for growing pans. I simply top up the reservoir everyday.

Are these ready for casing? Spawned 1/13. Seems so fast compared to cubes. It looks completely colonized when I look at the side and bottom of the tray.

It looks good for casing to me. But since I haven't (yet) got a succesfull pan grow, you may better want to listen to some of the more knowledgable growers here^^
Just IMO I would case them
Edit: which ones are they if I may ask?

Same. Iβve tried to grow pans a few times with no success. These are the best looking trays to date. They are Nec D.

Tamps and Pans should thrive in about the same conditions. No misting is necessary, ideally.
Killin it everybody! I threw some of the Spruce sawdust on top of my Bisporus sub and the fucker is eating it

It has a way fluffier texture than the hardwood sawdust I've been using so far, so if I can get Bisporus to fruit well from Sruce-heavy substrates, I'm just gonna keep using it
A game changer - I don't think so, but even if it ends up working as well as the hardwood, I'll be thoroughly impressed. HUGE advantage is that Spruce doesn't need leeching to be usable. I've just placed 2 bricks (1.6kg) into 1.5kg of boiling water (with some CaCO3) and that's it. I'm now letting it sit in a tub to see what happens, but from my experience Spruce doesn't really mold.
Maybe it turns out that most mushrooms can actually grow on it relatively well.

Adas.... that is awesome man!!! At least you know you can use it now! (At least with these) Pretty cool you don't have to leech it as well. Time saver somewhat. Thanks for sharing the info!
