Nice! Excited to see how your tubs turn out. I have a small tub of pan cambos in the works too. It just hit 100% and I'm going to let it consolidate for longer than my small containers did.

Also, I made a timelapse from my first flush in the sgfc last week. Posted it in the cult. pic of the day but figured it belongs here too. Definitely wouldn't have had a result like this without this thread!

Sick! Care to explain what you did? Sub, casing...?

Thanks guys!

The sub was roughly 60/40 or 70/30 hpoo to cvg... wasn't very precise with the ratio. I used 1 quart of wbs spawn, mixed with a little over 2 quarts of sub in a bucket and divided it into small takeout containers plus one rubbermade square. (there are pictures of the containers a few pages back in this thread) Cased with pasteurized natural/organic jiffy mix and fruited in the sgfc. I did have some overlay in the smaller round containers and will stick to the slightly larger squares in my next go.

To be totally honest I've never had much luck with pans. Ive tried like three times ever. My last attempt looked great on agar but on grains it's doing slow like twice as slow as any cubensis and then it won't recover from a shake.

Im guessing my cultures are just shit and i should go back to the drawing board on agar.

Maybe Pans hate oats. Has any one used oats as spawn for pans regularly?

That's the little pan work I did this year. Ill post pics of the spawn jars tomorrow they look like shit

They really seem to wanna test ones patience
My cultures move like there stuck in molasses on agar,
But now that I've got my temp in check(74-79°f),
The agar 2 (oat)grain jars are making a good recovery after their first shake(72h) I think.

You can gather from the dates on the jar that I've been waiting awhile to get to this point, day 12(The 1st shake)

Meanwhile the grain water LC( innoced with agar) 12days ago is about ready and is just waiting on me to get my shit together :hehehe:

I plan on innoculating sterilized grain/deer poo with a pan cyan agar puck. do I need to let the deer poo leach? or is the fresher the better?

I just read through your oat prep tek and picked a bag yesterday. I'll try dropping wedges from the same plate to pints of wbs, oats and rye later this week. It'll be a small scale and flawed test (not an isolate or anything) but can update along the way if you're interested.

Thanks! The bulbs I have are Sylvania 23w (100w replacement) 6500k cfl's. Used one in a desk lamp over the sgfc on a 12/12 schedule. I also had a cheap little LED desklamp from amazon set up on a reverse schedule to light them for the timelapse camera at night.

hair over a month old from agar wedge shook once. I don't think I can spawn these without running into a big old fuck story of contamination

I've always had a hard time distinguishing good growth from mold. there's definately some bacteria in there though (like that's any help)

How do you figure there's bacteria? This is 2nd transfer. The transfer from it is coming along well, looks the same. :justdontknow:

there's a yellowish ring of goop around the culture about where that first transfer was taken

That's the colour of the agar itself. It's MEA.

looks pretty pronounced... what I'm looking at is a different color than the uncolonized agar.

I'm gonna be honest and say I either don't see what you're seeing or the photo is bad. It looks pretty pristine in real life and I'm pretty confident about it.

Your edit there is just a thumbnail and it's not exactly clear what you're pointing at to me.

I have had some issues where rings would show up on agar with thinner growth, then thicker growth and I think it was down to the low temperatures at night. The heating goes off at 7 PM and comes on at 7 AM and sometimes it dips into 15 C. So they grow for 12 hrs at 20 C and 12 hrs at 15 C. (68 and 59 F) I thought that pattern caused them to grow the "rings". You can see this thicker growth in the lower right of the photo, it's less pronounced in the upper left. The thinner growth next to it allows the agar to show trough a bit and I think that's what you're pointing out.

I'm gonna grow out the third transfer anyway just because I feel safer that way.

I couldn't figure out how to re upload the original size. take another pic, I'd almost bet money I'm seeing bacteria.
