Sadly my Pan.camb. Goliath kinda didn't recover after the last shake going to wait two more days to see if something happens. But my Bispo is not yet shaken and looking good so far. And happy about my Nec-D, the two Jars seem almost fully colonized. Going to spawn them into tray's in a watertub. Just to save space for other grows and keep the loss small, in case they fail xD
Bisporus is slow but adding some % of sawdust into your grain jars helps speed it up and make it more dense.

I repost my question from the QQ-Thread here because here it's better suited: How important is the 24h straw soak pre-pasteurizing?

I guess it depends on how you're pasteurizing the straw. I use a hot water bath to pasteurize, so it will fully hydrate in that time. I've never soaked straw before pasteurizing it.

I've never heard of this, unless maybe they are referring to using cold lime pasteurization.

That's what I wondered as well. There are still so many methods I've never even tried!

Got some Pan Cambo jars finishing up. Planning on spawning to shoeboxes and placing them under a cool mist humidifier. My substrate of choice is going to be black kow mixed with straw, verm, coir, and/or gypsum. Does anyone have a recipe for the bulk substrate? Exact amounts of black kow to water? I could not find anything definitive UTFSE.

Black Kow is inconsistent because it isn't pure manure. It's manure compost so hasa lot of other things in it, and varies widely batch to batch. I would simply cut the black kow with as much straw as needed to get to the right consistency - you want it airy and fluffy, not muddy. And I would ensure you do a really, really good job pasteurizing it. 160-170F core temp for 2 hours.
People have mixed success with black kow. I've had success with cubes on it but never tried pans. I have seen others who have grown pans on it though.

Howβs this Pan cyan Nec D look? Agar wedge 5 days on wheat. Iβve made a few unsuccessful attempts with Pans in the past, and know that choosing the right type of myc is important, just not sure what the right stuff looks like.

Looking textbook good. Time to shake soon.
When choosing transfers then go with the fastest growing sectors just like you would with cubes. Wispy or fluffy isn't really a criteria to select for as this can differ a lot with what kind of agar and or nutrient content is used IME.

It looks very good ) This kind of mycelium is common for NecD - it looks slighly different comparing to others. Last time I had the same one. Also it is very agressive and grows very fast.

Guys, I just fucked up. Big time.
I bought dozens of kilos of sawdust bricks thinking they were hardwood, turns out they're Spruce. It wasn't cheap
Oh well. See y'all over at the Gourmet thread and Woodlvoers thread. Until next time (or until I figure out if Bisporus can actually eat Spruce, would be rad if it could).

I donβt think spruce will be particularly good for gourmet either. Maybe pine oyster?
