might work for manure? I have a feeling it's a no, but I can always just give it a shot and post up the results here for later if you guys think it's worth a try. These are the closest to cow manure I can actually buy from a store. Doesn't look like any stores online will ship here either. Anything else I'll have to talk to a local farm for some carabao shit.
Member 99.99 posted a successful grow using the homedepot brand steer blend in this thread, he didn't even pasteurize it:
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/28081356#28081356
If this is easier and less suspicious to acquire then use it, I would pasteurize it though to be on the safe side.
Hey, just thought Iโd let you know Iโm on my second flush and the substrate has just barely started to contaminateโฆso thats about 3 weeks in my martha which is about normal to start see contamination

2 flushes is pretty good for a manure based substrate that wasn't pasteurized. Have you used this bagged stuff often straight out of the bag like this?

Yes, straight from the bag I didnโt add moisture or anything. All I did was break it up into finer pieces.

Welp, my second attempt at growing PHV also got slime mold contam, again 2 kinds, Stemonitis and a white one. The first grow was with agar, the second with LC from the same plate. They are coming up through the casing, so I think they were in the spawn. They were either from the print or got onto the agar dish during inoculation. I didn't see anything obvious in the spawn jars or on the dish, tho.
The first grow was in one room, the second in another. These molds have not appeared in other grows (mexicana) using the same jars of casing nor in other grows the same rooms (mexicana, cubensis). I'm throwing out the remaining casing just in case.
If anyone has a spare print of PHV they'd throw my way, I'd be grateful. I really liked what little of it I tried.
Wish me better luck with the pan cyan Weza I'm growing. Doing that in a BabaYaga-style modified mono and in two Pyrex dishes using gordotek's method. Neither has been cased yet. Fingers crossed.

For some weird reason in my brain, I'm even more impressed by a nice flush when it's in a foil tote. Can't explain why or y'all will lock me up

Panaeolus cambodginiensis I think Iโm going to cut the two pins in my latest agar plate in to pcs and make lots of clones

So I am running pans out of my Martha, but I could never get the humidity. Just perfect because if you get water droplets on the mushrooms, they abort, and if they dry too much, they wonโt get past the pinning stage.
So i use the square aluminum pans for the substrate, and then I use a wider rectangle to keep excess water from them, but to keep them constantly and a high humidity Below is what I have my timer set for the humidifier

You can see the evaporation pattern circled in red, but you can also see how moisture the air is as condensation on the lid This is the progress of the latest two containers Iโve started

Happy Monday/Tuesday all you panheads out there!!! Everyone kicking ass? Are you getting getting your asses kicked? I'm frustrated with the process but I'm gonna figure this out sooner or later. I'd say later than sooner at this point!! Haha!! Who all has pans for Christmas?? Has anyone indulged on new years!?!? I listened to part of Jake's (oncid) interview on YouTube. Very interesting! Pretty informative. Hope everyone is doing well!! ๐โ๏ธ

I've been getting my ass kicked lately too! Just when I thought I had a decent grasp on agar, I find myself having to go back to agar 101 to retake the course. I'm getting closer to determining the problem I'm having. I hope.
I dumped out over a dozen myco quarts of bacterial spawn last week, let's just say my pride was more than hurt. It should have gone to the hospital.

Interesting - I have not had this problem in my tent. Have you tried cycles? I do a fog cycle followed by a venting cycle that flushes most of the fog out and pulls room air in. It allows the excess moisture on the substrate/fruits to evaporate off (which is also a big pinning trigger), and then the fogger kicks in again and the cycle repeats.
Your results look fantastic though! Nice work.

I think itโs the same process going on between what youโre describing and what I am doing. The biggest difference is I am not extracting any air out of the martha with any type of device. Its set up in my closet and I donโt want to destroy the other stuff in it So basically, the humidity is as high as it possibly could be, as well as maximum evaporation Thatโs really hard to do when you canโt get the mushrooms wet because they abort

The pans I grew were usually glistening wet from the time they were pins until harvest. I'm sure it depends on the variety, but I thought most of them love the fine mist from a fogger.
