Pan Cambo Sandose, Day 2 in the SGFC. I originally had 8 of the round dishes but I dropped one as I was moving it to the fruiting chamber...

I've got my fingers crossed too. They are munching the through the casing (pasteurized natural/organic jiffy mix) pretty quickly in the smaller containers though.
Here's where they're at 24 hours after the last shot. Any tips at this stage? Red flags from your point of view?

Your getting some mycelial break thru on to the case- sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't. This will probably eventually form some thick mats on top of the case. I've had this happen and got very little fruiting but I've also had very good fruiting with it and without it:
The mycelia is resisting switching from vegetative to fruiting mode.
Its been argued that letting the tray consolidate a few days after it reaches 100% before going to fruiting conditions may reduce this- makes sense to me.
Regardless- the mycelia is happy, keep the surface moist & maybe fan it some with the lid to the SGFC to increase evaporation & help shift it to fruiting.
I'm following your grow- BEST WISHES!

Thanks! I'll try upping the fanning a bit.
Any ideas why the mycelium is breaking through in all the small round containers, but not the larger square one? Everything is equal for all of them - from the same quart of spawn, same spawn/sub ratio, depth and casing thickness - so I'm curious as to why that would be.

yah. i know other people have had bad luck with pan spores recently. shit happens when you 'mishandle' them.
my pan cambos are like 80% they are taking awhile though. going on a month.... ill be making more plates for sure.

I'll take a stab at it-
The bigger square tray should be giving a bigger surface area to volume ratio if sub/spawn depth is the same for all. Just speculating but a bigger surface area should enhance evaporation which MAY speed the shift to fruiting.
Caveat-What really happens is often way different from speculation.

Consolidation of a fully colonized sub before applying the casing layer is something I recommend and always do for pans personally. Some pan growers don't use this technique and get awesome flushes. It's just a step I use with them with great and consistent results. I have never seen it hurt or do any damage to your overall flush. So even if it's not paramount, it doesn't hurt a thing to do it IMO.

mush-that jar does look really light. if it was a wedge drop, and u didn't shake it after noc, but it still colonized quickly as if u did, I'd guess its mold.

Whenever I form a hypothesis as to why something is happening (whether it be it good fruiting, poor fruiting, overlay or whatever); when I test that hypothesis it turns out i'm wrong just as often as i'm right.
For me growing these guys is more an art than a science. I'm low on the learning curve but the challenge is so much fun!

So jealous you guys are working with nice prints, while my dumb ass is working with spore syringes that are just infested with parasitic mold lol, i wish it could be a normal contam, but this bitch is always intertwined with the mycelium its hard to get a clean culture.
Got some Pan jams in fruiting conditions, hope it fruits though, its taking really long, hope it could at least put out a fruit to clone

If either of you guys, or others for that matter, are interested I have a bunch of fresh, dense Jamaican spore prints- Tested a couple- it takes ~3days to germinate on agar.
Can do a giveaway or trade. PM me if interested.
Ive had bad luck with Pan syringes myself.

Teemo, i totally sympathize with your situation. the mycelium i've been working with has been quite a challenge to get cleaned up too. every time i think i'm getting close to a clean culture the infection reasserts itself and i'm back where i started. since taking on this process every advance towards the goal has come with an equal or even worse setback so at this point i don't even let it get me down. just keep your eyes on the prize and you'll be booming out in no time.

For me, the only challenge ive ever had with pans is cleaning it. I cant speak for any other species of pans except pan cyans but they seem to harbor contams more so than any species of mushrooms ive worked with on agar.
Ive started from spore probably 3 or 4 times in the past few months and i always end up tranfering some kind of infection over and over. But pans are my fav active, they are very mysterious.
