Shame to hear that about the estero
Will grab a print of some different cyans and see how get on, just seen some more additions that can be made to agar recipe which will hopefully help
Absolutely!
I can't say with any certainty what is going on with it, only that I've seen 4 different grows with Estero in the past 6 months that had caps looking like jellyfish, but only one Estero grow in that same timeframe that looked healthy and normal.
I tried some different agar recipes with pans so far, and honestly I like the simpler ones the best. I have mad respect for JakeonCid, but I did not like his max nute agar recipe, even with the nutes cut in half. (To be fair, I didn't have any of the optional ingredients he mentioned, so I had deviated from his exact recipe.)
A lot of growers are using grain water agar with great results. I believe the agar recipe changes what the culture looks like visually, some of them have produced more cottony growth, while some of them produce wispier growth. I'm not ruling out genetics, but I have seen cultures grow differently after transferring to a different recipe.
I think as long as the spores are fresh enough to be viable, they'll germinate on just about any agar. (Excluding tea agar, which I don't think is used very often these days.) I've typically seen viable pan spores germinate at about the 48 hour mark, to maybe 72 hours. (That is visible germination to the naked eye, not using a microscope.) I wanted to add this so you don't waste your money buying agar add-ons. That vendor follows Jake's work closely, and might have been where you saw that. I honestly don't agree with them, I've had the best results using basic recipes.
Edit: I tried peptone, but it smells so bad that I don't ever want to use it again. It's a SUPER fine powder, and just weighing a scoop of it out created enough airborne dust that some of it went in my nose and apparently got stuck there. Every time I inhaled through my nose, I could smell shit 4 hours later walking around OUTSIDE in the fresh air! I had to take a hot shower and evacuate all the mucus in order to get rid of that smell! IF I ever use it again, I will wear a respirator to handle it.

I have another set of Estero in fruiting right now. We’ll see what’s up soon. If these also Jellyfish out, I’m going to have to find a different species to grow.
I went with the Estero due to the “advertised” strength of them.
We’ll see…

Well I hope you are getting better results this time around.
@ruawake: Do you have links to those posts with the jellyfish caps? I only recall 0t0lerance having these in the last few month.

Yeah don't waste your money on all this other totally unnecessary stuff. LME agar works great as standard nute. If you like to boost it a bit then nutritional yeast might do this for you but that's about it. No need for an antibiotic either, instead use water agar to clean up a bacterial culture.
If your spores fail to germinate on agar then try BRF/verm pucks (just a smaller version of PF-cakes) and give it ample time like about 10 days.

Give me a little bit, I will try and go back through and find them. I've been reading what I missed this past summer, and saw some grows before 0t0 coined the jellyfish description.
PanMax, I wish you luck on this round!

If it doesn’t do better, I am going to do a full Jellyfish Tek write up so people can do their own jellyfish grows at home!

Baba, here are the Estero grows I could find: (It didn't take too long so no worries, that search bar is wonderful! The hardest part was remembering what the typo was from one user, calling them "Estora". )
I didn't include 0t0's since you had already linked it earlier.
This one is looking fairly healthy, but the caps are still rounded, and I can see several fruits that look like the gills are getting squeezed out of the bottom of the cap. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27776789#27776789
Here is an Estero with flattened out caps, and what I assume they should look like: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27781722#27781722
This one shows a mix of different traits, I do see some jellyfish here and there: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27976522#27976522
This one is definitely jellyfish: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27982244#27982244
This one has a few jellyfish from what I can see: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27736885#27736885
Sorry these aren't in order by date or by user. I really don't know what to make of it.

Those are textbook beauties! Thank you for posting those for reference.
Is it possible that jellyfish trait has become stabilized? Maybe it branched off in certain spore prints and became dominant?

Awesome to look through these again. You’re right, there does seem to be a lot.
How are people cloning the Estero’s? Their stems are so thin. Is there a way to clone the fruit??

I haven't tried this yet myself, but I plan to try it the next chance I get: Clone directly to water agar.
Check out Baba's WA work here: (This is just one post in that thread, and not his first post regarding that pin. Keep reading through as far as you want.) https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27998823#27998823
I think WA would also help when trying to clone the more traditional way. (Taking a piece of tissue from inside the stipe to agar.)

Yep clone to water agar, just cut a piece off the stipe and put it on the plate. Wait 5-10 days. It only took one transfer to get from a raw pin to a clean culture. Could have gone straight to LC with that.

Harvested the wee bottle today and the first and second flush were together 20g wet. Will wait for a third flush.

Right after hanging up on the shroomery for today I will spawn the last of the RDU MS jars and I will have to shake up some of the Thai Suphan Buri spawn.

Thanks ruawakeyet , I got this culture from a friend. He says these are blue meanies (the pan blue meanies).
You know how it goes sometimes... I really hope he didn't mix anything up as I am really exited to finally see some success with these.
