Hi everyone, does this tub look dodgy in any way? It's day 6 since spawn 50/50 coir hpoo. The culture I am working with was labelled "blue meanie". This is my second attempt with this species (and pasteurization of hpoo) and I don't really know if its supposed to look like this...

Hey Fridgedoor!
From the pictures it looks actually good so far.
Isn't blue meanie a cubensis? As far as I know, they actually don't really need hpoo. It would be less "dangerous" for contams if you would go 50/50 verm/coir with cubes.
Cheers m8!

Hey Shrimps, thank you for the feedback .
As far as I know there is a cube variety called blue meanie and a pan variety with the same name. This would be the pan variety according to the person I got this culture from.
But it's good to know this tub looks ok so far.

That's why I don't like using common names, they can get mixed up. I've read that in Australia, the term blue meanies could be referencing cubes or pans. The mycelium looks more like pan to me, but IDK.

Here we call Bluemeanies the pan psilocybe cyans aswell. I just assumed that in the tube were cubes ^^ sorry then for the irritation

No worries Shrimps and I agree with ruawakeyet there are some confusing names out there... I keep you updated. So hope that it'll be a success this time.
Just to add to the confusion, aren't psilocybe cyanescens called "wavy caps"?

True, but depending where you live, the "commen used" names can vary. I hear and read from alot of people here in Europe calling psil. cyans also blue meanie.
Like ruawakeyet said: "That's why I don't like using common names, they can get mixed up."
Edit: now thinking how that may have came, probably just some bad translation from people using the germand name "Blauender Kahlkopf" and translated that to "blue meanie"

Yea mate! I love them too. A couple years back they also grew until October for me. Hardy lil buggers. Way more tough than Cyans.

Looks good but the water shouldn't be dripping on the walls like that. I'd open up the FAE holes a lot more.

Thanks Adas! I was concerned about that too as I don't like any pooling on the substrate. We got regular power cuts here and my grow environment experiences quite a bit of temperature fluctuations, which adds to the condensation issue.
I orientated myself on how Baba Yaga is doing his paneolous grows. The bottom holes are taped over with masking tape at the moment, the top holes are only half way taped over letting in some air through a layer of micropore tape. I planned on removing the masking tape to introduce more FAE as soon as everything is colonized nicely. So there's no issue introducing it already?

Yes, FAE can't hurt things. Pools of water could.

Jake's in the house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Killing it as usual!!!
Jake, I missed some reading here through the summer, and was catching up on 2 to 3 month old posts here the other day. I saw where you were trying to get PHV back where you had it after losing your isos. Let me know if one of your older prints, or a swab from one that I printed could possibly help you out. I doubt it, but wanted to offer.
Glad to see you here again!

few thoughts here for potential experiments or thought experiments.
1. use of bran as lignin source vs straw. which may include higher lignin grains or suppliment bran. ie oats by my estimate have higher lignin perhaps with little bran may not need straw hpoo etc. or perhaps with only small amount of supplementation to spawn may negate the need for needing straw hpoo etc. there by making an easier cross over for cube growers and newbies just needing to pasturize coir vs compost etc. so perhaps if just suppliment high lignin grain with bran and tiny % of straw into the spawn. (or maybe dont need straw with high lignin/bran spawn) may include psillium husk or wheat bran.
2.or perhaps have this all wrong and its the higher N rather than lignin, and one could add coffee ground to the spawn perhaps? but may just add to more contams. or simply use higher N grain with some other supplimentation. wonder if a BRF(and or grain) verm alfalpha would work to go straight to core for fruit. of course alphalfa having good amount of N, cheap and easily available and alot of minerals micros macros etc. however i suppose ur back closer to the pan cake type of recipe anyway. but may have some texture benefits to composted manure.
anyhoo couple ideas for all u pan heads and experimenters
also still very interested if anyone experimented with fruiting temps of bisporus as assume it handles lower temps much better.
