I've got some Australian Pan. cyan going on agar right now. Actually just did a T1 yesterday, so should be good to start soon. The mycelium seems way wispier than cube myc. Is that normal?
Yes, the mycelium is less defined/organized than cubensis. You could try different nutrients and nutrient concentration to tame the mycelium a little bit. This doesn't make it necessarily more organized as such but it prevents the growth from turning into a thick fluffy mat or fuzzball. Hindsight uses grainwater agar diluted by a factor of 3 IIRC. I use 1% LME agar and it results in much flatter growth, still a wispy fuzz but easier to read.

Glad to hear it's normal. I appreciate your response!
I'm more of an LME guy myself, so I'll give that 1% a try next time. Thank you.

@Baba Yaga, how do you calculate %? Just 1g LME in 100g water? What % agar?
I'm curious what % the agar I'm making now is?

Yes, that is correct Yoshi. 1g LME per 100g (ml) water is 1%. Agar is at 1.8% at the moment, but I will change agar brands sometime soon and this might call for an adjustment of the agar percentage. I'm using a syringe needle as transfer tool and this is why I have dialed it in at that value.

Guys, I think I've spotted my first ever Bisporus pins!

Cut off and fruited / cased August 25th. Bag is sitting in a traditional mono.

Went to the cinema yesterday on a very small dose; 0.1gr of bisporus, friend of mine first time introduction to mushrooms, for him 0,08gr he had a nice time. Movie improved quite a bit but not as much as when I doubled the dose last time. So I would like to increase the dose quite a bit for when Avatar is released.. I was thinking about 0.3 to 0.5gr of bisporus.. would that be a good dose or a bit too much?
That friend of mine has varicose veins in his legs and noticed that first, also with walking his legs left heavy... not sure if its a bad thing on mushies?

With how gentle Bisporus are, 0.5g will be okay. At least if you have tripped in public before.

This is what happens when you hose down bisporus.

@Bisporus growers: Is this (5 yo quote) still valid? I can keep misting the surface even with pins with Bisporus?

For me they always aborted when they got misted, but clearly in nature they love rain. My best guess is that it depends on the INITIAL conditions when pinning occured. Especially ambient humidity.

Im glad I asked. Thanks Adas. I will be fiddling with a syringe instead then, if needed at all.

I think it is dependent on the culture you have. I've had some BVI trays that would abort ANY time I misted them, yet some other BVI trays that loved being misted. Those are pans and not Bispos, obviously, but the same goes for Bispos. The answer is: It depends. The safest bet is always to dial your conditions in so they require no misting.... the misting is passive based on your tent cycles or grow chamber humidity levels.

well, a bit of disappointment with my boxes. A couple grams dried fruits for my effort and I was able to patch up and recase 2 boxes for a Hail Mary and really patched up the ezd monos with mp...thinking I might be onto something there...
I haven't had much experience with pans but 1.2g made for a beautiful Monday evening and I've been smiling all day today.

I believe there's more to it than genetics (see my comment above), though I largely agree. My Bunnell always loved misting, but the last half a year or more, they always aborted when I did. The cultures I've had lately seemed shit for one reason or another.
That being said, Bisporus doesn't need a ton of FAE, I've fruited them in a closed large tub with water after they have pinned and all was good. The volume of the large tub was about 20 times larger than the volume of the substrate itself.

A few more Bisporus.
Note the grey mini bugs crawling all over the cap.. no idea what they are, there was just a grey swarm of them on the soil.. I thought it was grey mold, but no... it's just one big mini bug heaven.. things flying, jumping crawling around.. but whatever, as long as the mushrooms are growing just fine I'm happy with whatever lives there.

Beauty! Typical indented nipple in the second pic. The bugs are likely springtails. Sometimes predatory mites may appear and they will decimate their population.

I tried a very basic outdoor bed and the manure got trichoderma growth really bad. Well i learned pasteurization is necessary. Onto the next grow. For anyone growing outdoors what is your method? I cant grow indoors because of my extremely limited space and I dont have a private yard. I live in florida which will allow the conditions to be good. Specifically I need stealth methods. Can I use clay pots? It would be ideal for the process to look completely incospicuous and portable.

They do great in flowerpots and they will LOVE the Florida climate. Go for it.
