Dog food? Interesting. I've seen a lot of older posts about people using dog food as agar and even substrate base, but I've never tried it myself. What do you like about it? Faster growth?
On another note, harvested a bunch of 2nd and 3rd flush pan bispo trays and think this might be the biggest one yet:

Looking great hindsight! I can't help myself but wonder, is that stipe color actually white? Here the stipes are quite brown/green, some even seem to have a speckled look to them, like a small galaxy with stars

My stipes are usually pretty white or very light brown or cream color. I haven't had the speckled stipes like you show on yours.... I see the speckled stipes on Subtropicalis and on Mexicana. Probably just two different phenotypes of bispos.

Speaking of Pan Bisporus. Yesterday I cased those tubs with a very thin layer of peat verm caco3 and today I started giving passive fae.
Any advice on how wet to keep the casing or let dry a bit and then mist again? What's your strategy to get them to pin @hindsight?
Thought I'd better ask before I mess the conditions up all week first. lol

I dial my tent cycles to keep the casing wet, but with no water pooling. There is some drying and rehydrating happening because of my tent cycles, but it's every 14 minutes so nothing like I do with Subtropicalis where I take the tray out of the tent and leave it on a shelf for the casing layer to dry completely out then soak it and put it back in. If the casing looks damp, it's good enough. If in doubt, I'll touch the casing with the pack of my fingers to sense moisture. If it feels dry I will mist it and adjust my tent cycles to have 30 more seconds of fog every 14 minutes. If I see water pooling, I will soak it up with a paper towel and adjust my tent cycles to have 30 less seconds of fog every 14 minutes. I have it dialed in to the point for 9+ months now where my fog cycle is either 2:00 mins, or 2:30 seconds. The venting duration and resting duration remain unchanged.
Do be patient. Sometimes it takes a good 2 weeks for my bispos to start pinnning.

Hindsight, what type of timer are you using? I want to automate my tent's humidifier but the timers on amazon seem to be overly simplistic. The one I found that might work requires manual entry of times instead of electronic, but that isn't a huge dealbreaker.
It sounds like yours is better?

I use these and they work great: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B086DN9QT3
I have one for the fogger and one for the vent fan. I run 2min fog, 1min vent, 11min sleep.
The mode I use on each of the timers is on-duration/off-duration/repeat.

Thanks! That sounds great, I'll give this one a try!

Yes, velocity. Pans usually takes me about 6-9 days to fully colonize the plate with 10g processed dog food/10gr agar. But on top of all, it throws good strong patterns compared to other recipes (IME). I just use DFA with pans and lions mane. With all the other species I just stick with MYA.

Will they survive? what do you guys think? temp will continue to drop here in NL to 20 celcius and a cold 15 at night coming monday.. after that a bit warmer again. Some new fruits popped up, so I'm curious if they will make it...
Just a lonely fruit in the other tub..

That’s a big boy hindsight! (Last year I had one over 10gr) 0to for the colors usually when maturing they become more white mostly if air is a bit dry (more dry more white more humidity more brownish) they should survive with a bit colder temp but probably develop slower, but even after they stop popping up the mycelium can survive and even fruit next year when hotter season is back..

Yes, that is great. I didn't get a massive flush, but it's fine. I notice I'm very happy with just a few mushrooms. That is all I need for a few high dose trips haha. Thanks for elaborating on that V.L, good to know, I currently have your subtropicalis on agar & made a LC
All sectors appeared similar to me, so I've made 2 liquid cultures each containing 3 wedges.

not sure if this is too soon for an update but, im curious when i should begin to harvest any of these. some caps have opened, are a little lighter in color and have a slightly wrinkly appearance. but theyre short af, tallest like 3cm is the lol. will these start to grow taller or is that typical size?
also, should keep the casing soaking wet? i just tried watering it using a syringe a couple days ago for the first time n they seemed to like it but i also am worried about over watering…

Your first few times, I would wait until you started to see initial evidence of spores being dropped. Then harvest.
Your casing is as wet as I would get it. I would not go wetter than that.

Damn that is one fat Bispo!
Nice looking tray posted above too, I bet those will fill in nice
Hindsight, Thanks for the advice on letting this tray sit to avoid overlay. I think I'm past the window now and it looks good. Maybe looking a little dry though? It's in my small-sized JCM and I gave it a light misting a couple days ago because I thought it was looking dry. This was cased 5 days ago

Your trays look pretty good in terms of moisture. I would leave it as-is! Should be seeing pins within the next week or so.

Just another day at the office. Taking transfers from a couple new NecD germination plates and streaking some more Wild Coast.
