Hindsight, your steam pasteurizer looks real promising and I'll probably be building that. For now I'll see how the stove stop method works for me, the only thing is keeping an eye on the stove the whole time seems like a pain.

In regards to instapot pasteurization I’ve learned not all insta pots work the same my fago pot is the only one I use for manure all of them work fine for coco coir (prolly because it doesn’t need to be truly pasteurized but I still hit it with some heat anyway) but the fago cooker holds a perfect 162F and allows me to choose the duration of the “keep warm mode” run which I set for 16 hours I’ve never had it fail on me only bad spawn ruins my bulk runs and now that I’ve perfected my grain water content I don’t have many problems with that either, I will say that ms grows are much more hit or miss in terms of yield and I’ve had to re-obtain isos of all my pan strains since my last shutdown and lab relocation but once I get a iso things move forward pretty well, my biggest set back currently comes from no longer living where I grow so I can micro adjust constantly throughout the day so it’s taken me a little longer to dial my new grow Space In than it used to but I’ve now got it all sorted

Nice fruits everybody, was wondering where they were all hiding.
You are absolutely right regarding the culture work Jake, finding a good clone is the key to stay in the fun zone and to get consistently good results. A couple of days ago I have inoculate 8 Grain jars and 12 straw/manure bottles with 4 varieties. Will hopefully get lucky with a few good clones.
Nothing much to show yet but here are a few germination plates: Brunnell / NecD / Jambo

and two cultures on 1% LME agar: Bunnell T3 / NecD T1

I use a sous vide stick for pasteurizing small batches of substrate. You can set the temperature it needs to maintain for a chosen amount of time. I insert a meat thermometer into the core of one jar to see when it reaches pasteurization temperatures throughout. I would think this is a more precise method compared to hoping the 'keep warm' function of an insta pot maintains the right temperature?

I am waiting to find one of those sticks at a thrift store.
Another good option would be a hot water urn or a digiboil as used in home brewing. They have adjustable thermostats and come in decent sizes (25-65 liter).

Yeah if you can set the temperature and run time yourself then that’s perfect I lucked out and the first instant pot I got held the perfect temperature and I’ve checked it multiple times so I haven’t had to use anything else do you have a product link for this stick you speak of? I’ve never heard of it

I have the Wartmann WM-1508 SV. There are other brands with a similar product, because I'm not sure if these are available in the USA.

Baba Yaga said: The mycelium on these plates is looking messy. I don't know if the discolorations are from the colored pieces of agar and just bleeding out or if the mycelium is producing these colors like the red in picture 1. I think I see some blue on the second plate but can't tell what color is showing in the third plate.
The growth pattern of all of these cultures is off IMO. I would take a few transfers from the second overgrown plate and the third one if this is all I had to work with. Take smaller transfers if possible like just plucking a bit of mycelium off the plate. If you have more spores then start a couple new germination plates, just in case that all of this is mold.
What is your agar recipe, type and percentage of your nutrients?
Quick update from me. I managed to start two new plates by salvaging spores from the original sample. I think one of them looks decent and quite a bit different from the previous stuff which makes me think all the other stuff may have been different species. Here’s a pic if anyone has any feedback (again, we are dealing with a species of black spore grass pan here that’s I haven’t formally identified, so the mycelium might not look exactly like others in this thread)

Came home from vacation. Found the largest fuckin Bisporus I've ever grown. One cap was nearly 6cm in diameter. The whole flush was 36g.
EDIT: The dry weight ended up being only 2g.

Bisporus "myc floof" in an indoor sub. It's not a stone, it's soft. You can see in the second pic I peeled it away gently and it's blue inside.

Instapots are the same as crock pots right? Can attest to the sousvide works well for casing. I do bulk in a cooler to good success. Thinking of trying crockpot for smaller runs. That’s a nice feeling Adas coming home to magic in the garden! It’s been dry as fuck lately so been itching for the garden to get some good rain and see how the patches are doing. Update from yesterday, the bins are filling out nicely and growing fast now. Filling up my jar nicely.

Instandt pots are more of a combo of a pressure cooker and croc prot. They use pressure to cook the food quicker(instant) and have keep warm functions like a croc pot.

Nice bispo grows Kirkeng and Adas! Makes me smile to see more and more of these being successfully grown.
Thanks for the comment on the Instapots JOC - I have the name brand one and it only hits 145F. I loved the convenience of it but the steam pasteurizer I built is even more convenient. It is something one has to build though, so not nearly as convenient in that regard. Question for you: How many transfers/cultures do you typically fruit before finding an ISO you like? Just curious if you are working with a few, or dozens, to find what you like.

Thanks man! Though it honestly feels weird that you're saying "nice grow" to something that basically grew itself, minus the initial prep I feel like I shouldn't be taking the credit. I must say here that the company watering the garden while I was away did a good job. I would normally never overwater my plants like that. The blackberry may only need watering once a week at most so I kept it at that.
But the substrates that I left at home are colonized and looking beautiful still, so it's also time for some indoor fun! Just gotta overcome my ADHD and prep the casing and stuff. Oh god.

As someone with severe ADHD and BPD, something that's helped me change the way I cult is setting certain days for it. Same days every week. Easy peasy, no excuses that way.
It becomes so routine that if there is any extra work outside of those days, it feels much less of a chore to just do them as soon as you can.

That could work but I do mycology on a TINY scale so there's no need to do anything every week. I'm super slow with it, don't let my TC badge confuse you

Adas, I’m honestly not sure where they came from, I met someone like a year ago locally who gave it to me cause they weren’t having success with it. Don’t know who or where they got it from tho, all I can say is I’m glad I met them. They also gave me some Hawaiian cyans that unfortunately never germinated..
