Today I made a tea with 6g fresh Bisporus. I have to say I expected the potency to be a bit higher, but they may have contained a lot more % water than I expected. Effect-wise though, they did not disappoint! The set & setting could have been better, but as soon as they came on the anxiety and weird feelings all dissolved into bliss. It was soo euphoric! My absolute favourite mushroom so far.
These ones I've found first, they dried out the same day so I left them to decay.

These are the ones I've eaten. As you can see, they got pretty big. Easily Pan Cyan size with ~3g each. Certainly biggest Bisporus I've ever grown. These VL genetics are really supreme! Thanks, VL!

Very cool! I can't wait to consume some of mine. Have had great feedback from friends. It will be the next thing I try.

Adas! you're growing these outside? I recall someone told me you can grow these outdoors.. can't recall who told me. But.. no joke.. I thought about this yesterday and decided to give it a go and moved some spores to agar. It was a print on paper though.. I tried to move some spores with my inoculation loop but did not feel like something happened.. if nothing germinates i'll try to scrape some with a knife.. but before I derail..
I was looking up how to grow these outdoors.. but did not come across any guide or how-to. Maybe you can share a thing or 2 about what you did here? Thank you in advance man ! (I think I do see a strawberry plant)

So, I shook the Estero grains yesterday.. happy to see the mycelium is already recovering, BUT I notice this deep blue-ish spots.. initially I thought some contamination was growing out of the grains. But... then I noticed this piece of agar with some shriveled mycelium from the shaking.. and it looks like the mycelium is showing bruising..
I have never seen this before, can someone confirm this?

I notice bluing sometimes when I shake pan grains. That's what it looks like to me. Also, here is a pan cinct pin:

Your esteros look like they're coming along nicely. The discoloration on these bacterial grains is bruising. You can see the little sclerotia beginning to form. I'm willing to bet these nasty grains will still colonize the substrate.

I had a tray of cincts get completely taken over by trich, the cincts then recolonized the cake (I'm guessing from the sclerotia) and pushed up a few of the largest fruits they've ever produced.

Hindsight - I'm also having trouble isolating fast whispy mycelium with my cyans, it looks fast and whispy to me on agar but once I put it to grains it seems to slow way down and become thicker and more tomentose.

Who did you get the Bisporus print from (if I may ask?). Because the one I've sent you was on paper as well.
Yea so I've just had this pot with a tiny bit of soil and a strawberry plant in it. I added some pasteurized manure-based sub, then a layer of Bisporus spawn, and then again some sub. And in the worst droughts I've watered it. That's all, but what works even better is burying substrate that is already colonized, not just grains and uncolonized sub, because that can contaminate way more easily.

What's with the large birch those fat bisporus are growing next to? Some type of totem? The pot looks a tad bit small for a birch tree of that size.

It was originally an Azzy flowerpot with a birch log in it. The log is actually no longer there, just the bark that I didnt bother removing, lol.

Unfortunately your letter never reached me I've obtained it via FSE, not via anyone here.. I'm afraid it's old though, if it doesn't germinate I'll try to scrape some spores with a knife.. cut a corner off the paper and stick that to agar.. maybe that works..

Good to know, thank you for sharing Adas, I'll indeed make a few dedicated flowpots here full of bisporus haha. Would love to have them growing outdoors! Any other panaeolus that will grow in NL / UK -like climate ?? Did you use any special casing? or just potting soil or some peat/vermiculite? Trying to find some information about the origin and natural occurance of this species to learn more about it.. but there isn't much info out there.

There's no reason to overcomplicate it. Just let the sub colonize in the flowerpot and cover it with potting soil mixed with grass seed. Mist gently to allow the seed to germinate and you can place it outside where it will pretty much take care of itself (or you may need to water sometims to keep the grass alive).

Alright, I'll follow your advice, thank you. Hope it will do well here after reading a bit more I have the impression that this happens to be a warm weather species that happens to do fine in slightly colder climates.. so who knows.. maybe it will thrive here in the Netherlands. If the print germinates I'll setup 3 to 4 big flowerpots and see what happens.. thanks again!!!

The second tub was a little underwhelming but still a good starting point. I already harvested a little before I took the photo so the front is a bit sparse.

The 2nd flush on the 1st tub is coming in, once picked, outside it goes. Same for the 2nd tub when it's time. I have limited space and Bisporus and Cinct are next in the que. I've been testing a different sub recipe and ended up having to make a few dubs with 12qt tubs instead of 6qt and that created a bottleneck.

Thank you Baba Yaga, it is definitely a work in progress.
I went from MS agar>1/4 pint oat/barley>myco pint RGS>sterile bulk, then crumble to tray, case (sterile) after consolidation then FC.
Bulk recipe is: 3C chopped straw 1C Kelloggs "Ammend" 1/4C Wpoo 1tsp gypsum 1/2tsp chicken feed 1 2/3C water
Casing is peat, verm, AG lime, pickling lime (Asura's recipe)
I put the straw in 2 micron filter bag and soak it for about 20min. I measure out the rest of the ingredients and mix them in, PC 2hr @ 15psi.
My FC normally is a 6qt but in this case 12qt. I use a aquarium pump bubbling into a 1/2 gallon jar partially filled with water and a touch of H2O2. From there into a qt jar with some salt then into the FC. The dubs have holes near the sub level plus more in the upper part of the dub. I mostly use Polyfil in the holes.
I need to get rid of the fuzzy legs and feet on the stipes, maybe loose Polyfil or larger holes? More size would be nice too, I think I may have been a day or two late with syringe watering the casing. Hopefully I'll get it dialed in with the next round. I plan to cut the bulk recipe in 1/2 and go straight from agar to a 1/2 pint of RGS as spawn moving forward.
My current set up

Ammend ingredients

Nice Adas! Glad you have success with them too! I had specimens over 10gr not a surprise water content was a bit high judging by their brown colors when more dry they become more grey-white, Oto your prints from FSE is from my donation wish you good luck! (PMed you..)

Hi all.. I was about to post about 'whispy' mycelium.. as I'm not seeing any on my agar plates, or I lack the skills to pinpoint desirable traits. BUT I notice something odd... so here you see a picture where one of the agar plates where the agar wedge detached... this is because I dropped the agar dish from 2m hight... picked it up and just handled it like nothing happened. However, I see a clear ring formed around the mycelium and I wonder 'why'.. maybe like dung that drops on the floor.. that vibration triggering something in the mycelium? (maybe a sign like "it's time to GROW") I don't know.. just speculating. Anyway the ring looks more fluffed-up.. the mycelium is reaching into the air it seems..

Maybe I'm finally contributing something to the community now .. or it's old news haha
