It could be the casing. I pasteurized it the same way, but for less time. I'll repasteurize it to be safe.
I don't have any woodlovers growing indoors, but I do have them out in the yard. None of this contam there that I've seen. I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Hmm.. I'm going for my first pan cyan growth and during pasteurization I noticed the temperature reached max 80.7 celcius (was above 62 celcius for 2 hours). I wonder, how long does it take for microbes to recover and recolonise the parts that were exposed to higher temperatures? +- 5 days I read somewhere, is still still up-to-date knowlegde? Or maybe I should state it differently, for how long can I let the bags ripen? e.g. 2 weeks.. a month?

I don't think anyone has conclusively proven ideal aging or minimum aging, but the common wisdom is still 3-7 days. I have found 5-7 days to be good, but this is pretty subjective because I've never done side by side tests, nor have I tried aging 2+ weeks. JOC seemed to draw the line at 7 days but I don't know if he has continued experimenting with it or if he has had bad results from going longer than 7.
As for the temp, if mine went too high I'd just discard the batch and cook up a new one. But that's just me. I wouldn't want to waste time and spawn on a questionable batch of sub. I'd much prefer wasting a few quarts of sub vs wasting grain spawn that I spent 2-3 weeks growing.

Well, I'll wait and see then wat happens.. if it contaminates too bad. Yesterday I swiped some spores on agar, so ample of time to make another batch.

Thanks for all the help everyone. After 3 failed attempts spanning over 6 months and dealing with poop and then pressure cooking the said cow poop, I finally have success. For the first time in my life I will try these little cuties tonight.
Just reading more and more and making sure Estero is what I have grown. Bruises blue and everything seems to be pointing to a pan cyan. Take a look yourself. I am so happy.

Nice work. Quite dark for pans.... don't think I have ever grown any that dark. Doesn't mean they aren't pans though. The blue bruising looks right.

Dark in the sense of bruising dark or dark caps/stems?
A few larger pins that I harvested have now completely turned grayish black from blue. They smell like brown edible button mushrooms. I am mildly scared to eat them. :p

The bruising is good - I mean dark in terms of the shade of brown your still-growing fruits are. Mine are usually a lighter shade of tan/cream. I have only grown 5 or 6 varieties of pans though. Perhaps others have grown some that look more like yours. Nothing to worry about though. Just an observation.

Hello guys! Hope the day's going super well for you guys. This is my pan cyan babies' monotub. I only water with syringe once a day. And I'm wondering what do with the polyfill. Should I keep them or remove them?
When I open the lid. I get that earthy smell. Is that good? Or is it a sign of too much CO2 buildup?
The pinset is not that great right? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks so much!

You are right that it's not a great pinset, but you have pans!
I would guess too dry of a casing from that tub, and also the substrate looks really "heavy" and not fluffy.
Casing for pans gets like soaking wet, not like a coir surface for cubes.
The substrate for pans tends to be very airy/fluffy.

karri0n,
Thanks a lot for the advice. I could have done a better job with the casing. I'll keep the casing very moist got it.
And yes! I do have pans. It's incredibly exciting. Thanks so much ☺️
How about the fae? Is it adequate?

No idea. If you asked me a year ago, I'd say not enough air.
It used to be everyone had fans and/or air pumps blowing on their pans controlled by robots, with only the finest thoroughbred racehorse poo and grandma's finest organic golden prairie straw.
now we've got cakes, people are doing monos with coir only, or leaving them on their kitchen table with a humidifier nearby and stuff like that.

I'm doing Bisporus right now. Hindsight is the one to ask, my one successful run of Bisporus so far was wack.
I've got a clone LC now though, and a couple nice looking boxes a few days from casing of the ms culture, so we will see.

Today I took some T2 transfers from this T1 plate of Pan Cyan pseudo-stones.

I took three transfers from the prominent node around 6 o'clock. When cutting into it, it had a hard consistency, more so than the nodes I transferred during T1.
There are also three jars currently colonizing this same culture with the goal of seeing if it performs like this in grain, so far nothing to report.

TLDR I'm a stupid lightweight who makes bad decisions and/or I managed to grow the world's strongest bispo. The former is more likely. Also, content warning: near-death experience.
I did 2g of bisporus tonight, and I think I will not be growing pans any more. I have never been so high. 1g would have been too much. Hallucinations were overwhelming, and noise was the worst, even music. I could barely breathe. All my muscles were tightening. Thought I was going to piss and shit myself.
Legit thought I was physically dying. I've had ego death before, where I felt a sense that I wasn't, or that I was distributed, or that I was also other people and they were me. A loss of the sense of self as a discrete entity. But this death was different, rooted in the body. I could not control my limbs, I felt completely stupefied, half of my face and the right side of my body was twitching. I was drooling and oozing snot. I felt so hot like I needed to take all my clothes off, but also freezing cold. Felt like my life was slipping away, that if I passed out I might not wake again.
All the while thinking it was only 2g, should have been a level 4 or so based on the dosage calculator, how is my body shutting down? Why do I feel like my face is on fire? Why aren't my limbs responding to my commands? If I live am I going to be a vegetable or mentally deficient?
It reminded me of how they describe hypothermia, where people are found dead curled into a ball and having taken all their clothes off. I remembered how when my father died that he kept trying to take his shirt off, and the hospice nurse saying that was typical during the transition from life to death. I wanted to go to a hospital. I didn't want my loved ones to have to find my dead body.
I've done 8g of non-mutant cubes, I've done 4.5g of TW2 and of natalensis, I've done 3.5g of Psilocybe cyanescens. This felt like my hardest trip squared.
Obviously, I'm physically OK now. I focused on breathing and trying not to pass out, with my trip buddy's help, and eventually things got manageable, but only barely. Even then, the next part of the trip was a lot of gnostic ruminations, thinking that reality is a trap set by a malicious entity that feeds off of us. Save me from the demiurge! Dark dark dark.
I have a lot to process. I feel more prepared to die now, and that's frightening at the moment, like I could throw my life away, or see death coming and not fight to stay alive. I won't trip again for a while, and the buddy I did them with (same dose as me) also had an awful time and said he may never do mushrooms again.
I find it darkly funny that I have spent so much time, money and effort and put up with so many frustrating failures in the past two years trying to grow pans, and then when I finally succeeded, I took too much like a damn fool. I feel so stupid.

You're OK. That's the important part.
This might be too soon but congratulations on your breakthrough trip
This is the one you will always remember. Note that you are still here. Did not die or end up in a mental institution.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Sounds like you grew some kick ass fruits!

Holy shit! That sounded crazy! Glad you’re all good! Was it your first time with pans? I’m still in the process of trying to grow some.
I usually take quite heavy doses with cubes but gunna start at 1g pans no matter what, this has further enforced that notion!
