I finally bought a Panaeolus species and I received the spore syringe last Friday. I got Panaeolous Tropicalis. I havent grown a Panaeolus species in years! My first grow was a fail but this time, Im gonna use agar.
Going to drop some solution on a couple plates and wait for the magic

I just started some Pan Trops that I got from a vendor too… Let’s do this!

- I don’t expect the cultivation to be any different than other pans I’ve grown

Whoa! Talk about synchronicity!
And no pressure on my part
I took 6 pics of the syringe and the plates

I think I might start a grow log

I guess I didn't realize you were actually after POWDER, I just assumed finely pulverized and chopped to shit would do the same. I've got nearly $100k in mowers so my results probably aren't replicable for the average homeowner anyway...Sorry, I'm buzzed and will see myself out. Disregard me entirely.

Jealous of your tropicalis grows! Hope you succeed and take some prints to share. Doesn't seem like prints are available anywhere.
Update on my weird-looking pan colonies. Just one day after transfer, the Jambo that I was ready to give up on as too powdery and not worth transferring is looking more organized and normal on malt carbon agar.
Will be interesting to see if this grows out normally from here on out or if it reverts to being powdery/disorganized. Photos below are 30X through a jeweler's loupe.

Based on feedback from folks here, I bought undyed MEA plates for future use. Hopefully the carbon will work for now. Send good vibes my way.

Me three on the P. tropicalis spores...But I'll wait to hear how you people did before attempting it myself, or start the plates and check in for some advice about fruiting, if I get that far. I still don't have cubes down by any means, so getting ahead of myself, I know.

I'd imagine if you DIY your straw that it'd be quite labor intensive.
A lot of big boxed stores have straw that is chopped and ready to use. A weed whacker in a bucket or lawnmower will work.
Internet has lots of options... https://www.cashmans.com/product/straw-pellet-bedding/ https://www.homedepot.com/p/2-5-cuff-Seeding-Mulch-with-Tackifier-MLEZSTRAWMULCH/318089051 Tack doesn't seem to matter either.
2 trays of burnell and wild coast cased. I usually go right to FC, going to wait till I see pins or primordia.

read the more up to date teks, there is no need for 'powedered' straw. You can just hand chop it down or use a machine if you are processsing more.

Anyone else stop chopping? I'm lazy and just kinda hand tear so a bit of variation, size doesn't seem too critical for me.

I used scissors to cut straw from a bale by the handful when I first started. It worked fine but was labor intensive and took forever. You can buy huge bags of chopped straw from Amazon or the local feed and seed. Look for the Standlee brand. “Chopped straw bedding” is how it’s usually sold. They also sell it specifically to put down over freshly planted grass seed but that stuff usually has a “tackifier” in it which turns it really sticky. Some people are ok with that and others say it’s too sticky. Lastly you can get straw pellets from a pet supply store. That’s as close to powder as you’ll get - basically powdered straw that’s been compressed into little pellets. You can rehydrate it.
You can also run straw through a leaf mulcher. This is what I do now. Search for “Sun Joe leaf mulcher”. I made a small modification to mine to help it work better with straw. I’ll run a batch through it and fill a giant black garbage back and that will last me months.

Thanks for these links - way cheaper than the mushroom substrate businesses, but unfortunately we don't have Cashman's out here. I'll check the feed stores and see if they have anything similar. Also, never thought that the stuff sold for landscaping/seed cover would work, great idea.

Prints and swabs are always multi-spore. Wherever you read that is incorrect. A cloned fruit will print like any other, if it drops spores.

Shameless cross-post from my LAGM 2022 grow. These are Peace River. Remind me of BVI, though a bit taller. Same shape and coloring and cap characteristics though.
