Lady was labeling for me. She wrote PC WC (pan cyan wild coast). I believe this is PC (Psilocybe cyans). I need better labeling LMAO

Pans don't go rhizo?!? I've only grown these for 2 years now, but don't recall this and none of my other pans look this way.
Psilocybe?

Bispo harvest. Second flush in the background and first flush in the foreground. The foreground tub is the one that was verm/manure only. It did ok - not a canopy but not awful either. The coloration pattern is interesting on these.

Those are so pretty, amazing job Hindsight. Are bisporus as potent as other pans?

Sorry for sharing the following pics of this disgusting plate but... I think there might be pan cambo germination there. The trich island appeared first and never spread any further, while the wispy myc appeared from inside and under the trich and started expanding. The little wispy myc satellite at 10 o clock also emerged from a spot that had some  clumps of pan cambo spores.

Whaddya say?

Of course, I will try germinating again on another plate later... I think the agar was too hard this time around and I introduced a shit ton of contams for some reason (I think I bumped my arms against the holes of the SAB or smth).

Just a dry verm layer. Sometimes I put some micro pore on there, but I couldn't find my roll this time round!

Hindsight, those are beautiful! The difference in color is interesting and surprising.

I think you are on to something regarding the grains found in some shredded straw. I know I found a lot of oats in my bag, and am also suspecting them causing most of the contaminates I experienced. The only grain jar that contaminated was due to the culture not being clean from agar, but approximately 25% of my trays would contaminate before the first or second flush.

I grew some pearl oysters last month using the same straw, and when I pulled the substrate out of the bucket after a few flushes, the middle was already green. Since it was manure-free, I know every oat I saw came from the straw itself. Thinking about it now, I wonder if that is why straw has been notorious for contaminating and gets such a bad reputation. I'm eager to use up the bag of shredded straw and go back to lawnmower chopping my own from straw bales. I don't remember seeing any grains when I did that. (A lawnmower with a bagger makes chopping easy.)

I will definitely try a straw-free substrate this spring. My first mini-grow was manure and verm only, and it did ok considering I didn't have a proper FC and was still learning what conditions pans want.

Jomanda, I would focus on swabbing new plates rather than transfer away from that plate. Looks like there are already mold spores being released, so I would expect the transfers to have some spores ready to germinate. While I don't like dirty plates, I know I will get more practice when I have to do it over again, and that repetition has improved my skills a lot.

Coversall, I'm looking forward to seeing all those jars in full flush!

Thanks man, going off my last attempt at the wild coast red spore, I'm not expecting much from these jars. The main aim is to find a couple of fruit worth cloning, then growing them out in the bigger pots I normally use.

Well everyone is saying it but -
Hindsight those bispo s are so beautiful!

I’ll elaborate though - yea the patterns on the cap are unique and striking… but I’m also seeing these fruits are just maxing out their potential - like they could be not be better cared for. And THAT is beautiful too!

Well Done Hindsight

Gorgeous as others have said.
Are these pan pins? All my labels got jacked.

Looking like I didn't case which has me confused. The way it's flushing is how I typically get pans.
Assuming these are semps then.

They don't look like pan pins to me, but I couldn't tell you what they are. If they are semps, I'll be eager to see them develop, so I hope you'll post them on a Semp thread. I've read those are a lot of peoples favorites.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I have a few more bispo trays fruiting but they are pretty sparse for now and might stay that way. Hoping my clone culture works out. I will be growing these outdoors this year too.

Yeah I really do believe seeds in straw are a big problem even after pasteurization. I have straw from two different sources, one has more seeds than the other but both do have seeds. I am getting better grows from the straw with fewer seeds. I've also been trying various methods of seed removal but have yet to find anything foolproof and it's time consuming. Next step will be to make a sifting tray out of hardware cloth. But having said all this, I am still getting some really good grows on straw, even with seeds, so there could still be other variables at play to explain failures I've had on straw. It's too early to conclusively blame the seeds but I'm trying to rule it out.

Not far from my home is a spot often grazed by horses. Once the weather warms up a bit, I'll go spawn some Bisporus into the horse shits so that I can observe it in its natural habitat. Yeah science!

Beautiful bisporus! And yeah, they can look a lot like cinctulus, or cinctulus can look like bisporus. They get that nice white ring.

Looking forward to see that Adas. Have you try grow other pans that way before. I Mean longer back in this thread ther is someone Ho did a out door grow of bisp in his garden.

I got a question for you. Do you think People/stores ho makes pan growkits use a clone.? And how bad is it to make sporre print of a cloned culture. Mean i have read somewhere that you dont shut clone shroomes or make print of a cloned culture.

Lovely MR.Giggles.  I think Its not only the white outer ring but also the darke inner ring that give it that speciale look.

I may have gotten lucky - looks like the mycelium did end up outrunning the bacteria on these bispo clone plates.

And the prints turned out great - big and dark.

Hey everyone, long time lurker first time poster.... I was thinking about the problem surrounding straw with seeds in it. Has anyone tried hydrating the pre sterilizing the straw separately in either bags or jars, then after it cools down mixing it with manure, vermiculite, ect... bringing the bulk back up to field capacity and pasteurizing it as you would normally? It feels good to finally join in on the conversation.....
