First tub of Bispos coming in. One big chonker. The empty areas have small pins forming so the second flush might look more full. Can also see my second flush of Tamps coming in below that:

Panny, that myc doesn't look like what I'm used to seeing, but that could just be the agar that it's on. I've read that some cultures don't like food coloring. I expect the growth to be uniform by T2, so it should be making a nearly perfect circle instead of looking like a snowflake pattern. If you have grain I would go ahead and take it to grain and see what it does.
Hindsight, those are some pretty bispos and tamps! I already miss growing a lot, Spring needs to hurry up and get here!

Looking a little ragged. Maybe make some transfers to a non-coloured agar?

Nice LC containers! Do those caps have ports or do you just unscrew them?

approaching 7 days in fruiting chamber with no signs of pins. temps hover around 77 and humidifier stays on until reaching 97% then the internal fan kicks on and starts the process over. substrate was allowed to colonize 5 days before casing.
is this typical for pin timing? ive read multiple posts where people are getting nice pinsets within 3-5 days of casing.
thanks!!

I can't see the mycelium comming tru the casing yet. Was you substrat full colonized after 5 days.? I Will give it 2-3 weeks before i Throw it out. Normal for me is 7-10 days. I AM also doing the waiting game currently at day 8 No pins yet.

howdy mycosmith, thanks for your input! yea i figured i would have seen the mycelium coming up through the surface by now. theres a few spots that u cant see from the pics but barely anything. ill give it more time and let it do its thing. i posted pics of the sub before i cased it on page 1251 of this thread. seemed colonized to me but its my first pan cyan grow so not positive about that
your totes look rad by the way!!

Did something crazy… We’ll see what happens. I have a myco quart of Millet - 90-98% colonized with that Bunnell culture. I noticed a couple of tiny spots of green toward the bottom so obviously I decided not to spawn it. So I just dumped some cactus mix on top and sprayed it with water. I popped it in the fruiting camber - let’s see what happens. 😊

Thanks for the kind words guys. Looking forward to printing and cloning these guys.
@Sloug, I have had some take up to 3 weeks. 1-2 weeks is normal. 3 days is the fastest I have ever seen and it's not common. Under 7 days I'm thrilled. Under 2 weeks I'm happy. Over 2 weeks I watch it for another week and then toss if nothing by end of week3. So about the same advice as Mycosmith.

Hmmm, this makes sense. Anytime I see people posting pics of Pan mycelium on agar is looks a lot more dense and uniform that what I have. I also use bottled water for agar, could this also be a problem? I'm not sure if most of you use distilled water, or is tap water good enough most of the time?

I have used tap water, reverse osmosis filtered tap water, and bottled distilled water. I use the latter now just because it's an easy way for me to rule out any additional variables the could be responsible for something screwy going on. The fewer things I have to wonder about being the problem, the better, so I go distilled. Having said that, I've never really noticed any difference between the three water types, personally, but I do know that public water quality changes over time, and most bottled water has minerals or electrolytes added for taste (calcium, silica, etc) and I don't know how much effect these can have on mycelium.

Your substrat looks very good back at 1251.so i think you gonna be fine. My casing is maybe a littel to dry so that make it easier to colonize. Then about this time (day 8-10) i Will let the fogger run a half hour or hand-water to simolate rain. And the day after i give it som extra fanning like 2x30min.over the day. As I undestand it pinning Coming from the magic that happens under the evaporation in the casing layer. But for you dont over do it just let it ride.

I love those little 250ml media bottles. They are perfect for small lc batches. I'm buying a ten pack at the end of the month and forgoing mason jars for lc.
My first batch of pan cakes has colonized pretty well. The only iffy parts are compost clumps I didn't break up well enough I'm going to try fruiting them anyway. Might shift my compost next run so I don't have little clumps of it.being partially frozen didn't help either. Hopefully I get at least a fruit. Dialing the Martha and my first run of cakes makes for a ton of variables up in the air at the same time.

My manure is almost entirely dry, so when preping the stuff for my pan cakes I rub it between my hands to break up any clumps!
What did you start the pancakes with? LI or LC?

I've always used tap water for everything mycological and had no trouble there. I'd start by ditching the food colouring.
What is your agar recipie?

I don't think it's "for taste", but literally so that people don't drink demineralized water. This would have bad health consequences and make you mineral deficient quickly.

Hmm I'm about to mix up some pan-cake mix. But am a little low on brown rice potentially. Any reason why I shouldn't throw in some whole millet? Or even grind the millet into a flour if I need a bit extra to make the ratio up? Or should I make up the difference with manure/straw? So many possibilities!

LI I wish I had thrown it in an lc. I feel much more able to read an lc and tell if it's good or not. I don't have a good source for nice dry manure just composted.
