I tried growing Goliath for four months from one vendor print I purchased and was never able to succeed. The mycelium always looked strange and I think it may have been some sort of mold instead. I eventually gave up.
This is what the plates looked like:

What was my most beautiful and uniform Pan culture just 1 transfer back, has now turned into one of the ugliest, all-over-the-place growths I've ever seen. I don't think it's the new plastic plates since both Zapotecorum and Tamps look gorgeous there. It's just my Bunnell culture that got fucked after the transfer.
It's also pushing out 2 (two) pins currently in the box (AND it took longer than usual). Oh well, gotta share our failures too! At least I'll have an opportunity to test the mycelium that came from frozen spores, haha.

I've had the most gorgeous rhizo woodie go to complete mess after T2. No fucking clue everything else was fine. Maybe just autopilot for a plate?
People with wildcoast experience. It tends not to be as wispy as other pans?

Bunnell they grow in a neighboring greenhouse, later I will show their growth. But I'm still happy with the result.

that means you are growing the same pan cambo as me.
What a nice tub, still excited

I would like to know this too, just streaked my first plate of these (also my first time working with pans)

I just go for most vigorous growth. Wild Coast seems less wispy then other pans I've worked with.
Where I'm at. Transfer deuce from my own swabs (4/20 swab), can't recall what the myc was.

Fuck me, you guys are killing it up in here!
T3's of my Pan Cyan Central FL are looking promising. I wanted to check if the big juicy marshmallow myc like this is what I'm looking for?

I have one that is quite aggressive and stays nice and flat which would be my pick to test first

Then theres the chalky/scabby looking ones which I wouldn't expect much from

Pan cyan rainbow on the other hand is being a little kooked

As you can see (hopefully) its creating these thin fuzzy pillows around the transfer wedge with a pseudo rhizo colonisation beginning on the plate and I am kinda confused. Anyone got any ideas or suggestions on what I am looking at here?

Those are looking a bit thick and dense but I'm guessing maybe it's your agar formula. What do you have in your agar and what strength?
This is a textbook example of what my pans nearly always look like:

It's tomentose but not so dense and thick. But again, agar formula can really change that, especially peptone in my experience.

For a first time Pan grow would you recommend a Jambo or a Wild Coast?

Agar for the CFL T2's is 150g potato in 500mL water with 10g agar, 7g dextrose, 0.5g nutritional yeast and 0.5g peptone.
I reduced the potato for the next batch of agar to 100g in 500mL with the same nutrient quantities listed above. This is what the rainbow T3's are on. The rainbow definitely changed to the thinner growth on the less nutritional agar.
Should I just keep transferring the CFL, hoping for sectoring to select the ideal growth?

I’ve only grown a handful but the jambos were by far the easiest. Wild coast did well for me too though.

Awesome, Jambos it is! I originally wanted to run them in the JCM chamber but I think I'm going to start off with Baba_yagas monos and see what I can do!

Would be sweet to see another tub creepyuncle.
@mistamonsta: Agree with hindsight and would put less nutes in the agar, that growth is too dense, just makes it hard to see what's going on. I myself am not too concerned to get the wispiest growth out there and had cultures switch between tomentose and wispy from plate to plate but I do run half strength agar now @ 1% LME and it works for everything and the cultures are staying wispy more or less.
Here is one of the clones I fruited just now, this is third transfer and there is still quite a bit of sectoring going on which IME becomes more visible on half the strength agar.

Don't worry, I'm sure I'll be spamming this thread with all sorts of updates and stupid noob questions
I've got a couple tubs I can modify, a box of nice horse turds, a block of coir and some empty plates so stay tuned! I can't wait to see what kind of punch these little guys pack

Thanks heaps Yaga and Hindsight
I did notice with cubes on MEA that a lean agar helps spread the mycelium better, I just wasn't sure how low the nute ratio could be for panaeolus.
I'l try 100g potato in 500mL with 5g dextrose, 10g agar, 0.5g nutritional yeast and 0.5g peptone on my next pour and transfer the CFL cultures to that.

I have the best and most consistent results on simple GWA. No additional nutes. Just 300ml grain water plus 700ml water and 18-20g agar. I messed around with peptone and yeast and LME and all that but still like GWA the best. Never does anything unpredictable and I can see what’s going on easily.
As for sectoring, I wouldn’t bother. As long as it looks clean, just send it. The only time I sector is when I have growth that looks completely different - like 3/4 of the circle is roughly similar (with various sectors perhaps), and then you get a 1/4 wedge that’s just totally different and looks nothing like the rest. I’ll transfer away from that.

how warm do y'all store your plates? I had very slow growth at 19°C (66°F), i mean, it was almost slower than my cube myc. Then i moved them next to my heating unit, where it is 25°C (77°F) and they started to grow noticably faster. Didnt think, that it would make that much of a difference

I have mine between 75F and 78F. They grow quickly on GWA at that temp. Same speed as cubes.

Heres how my pan jambos performed in a jcm with 0 effort:

Btw, does anyone know the potency of these?
