Thoughts on inoculating sterile bulk from LC?
I'm still wading through the thread page by page, but just trying to get a handle on using LC with sterile bulk vs open air spawning to bulk with grain spawn? I've got some nice prints I want to start asap and just thinking about the way forward.
My apologies if this has cropped up in the thread previously...

Bluehelix did wonderful grows like that (LC to sterilized substrate bags)

Thanks! I'll have a look.
Anther quick question: has anyone used sugar cane mulch (bagasse) instead of straw in their substrate?
It's much more available where I live. I know ps zapatecorum likes it, just wondering if I am wasting my time using it for pans and should source actual straw instead?

Asura also had success with LC to sterile bulk+grains, however, he doesn't do that anymore I don't think.

Give ya love over here, them spores on BVI make me happy.
I believe Anagam does LC to manure/hay too and his results are impressive to put it mildly.

, that is a nice second flush for sure!
What kind of yield are you guys getting per quart of spawn? I usually only do first flush and chuck after that but would like to figure out how much I get out or missing out on compared to the potential total yield. Not that I really care about getting maximum yield or growing more mushrooms but it interests me.
Only let 3-4 tubs run for a second flush so far and fruits were half the size of those of the first flush or less and it didn't seem worthwhile waiting around for that.

Also do you get more fuzzy feet in later flushes?

Thanks guys!
Baba, I have never actually weighed a harvest, mainly because my results are so hit-or-miss. My strategy has been to focus on getting to where I have more consistent results, and once I'm there, to keep progressing by measuring biological efficiency via weighing the harvests. I just feel like there's no sense weighing now since I'm a ways away from being dialed in. I mean, when I have clone cultures that grow great in one tray, and like crap in another tray, even if the substrate formula is the same, that tells me I still have work to do. Also, BVI are a really bad variety from a weight perspective. Very spindly, small caps, and not meaty.
Yes, I do get fuzzy feet on the second flush and beyond!
Also, I just realized the BVI tray was not straw/manure like I had thought. It was coir/manure.

Coir, next season I will try sawdust ala Adas.
Started weighing cause its so much more conclusive when judging the performance of a culture/tub, my grows vary a lot as well, putting a number down makes it easier to see a tendency. I'm also often surprised by the results for better or worse, just looking at a tub can be quite misleading at times.

I've been playing with just coir/straw here. Colonizes just fine. If I can quit messing up my casing I'd maybe get some fruits.
Is Adas spawning to straight sawdust? I've been playing with 50% hardwood/softwood for a few species and they've responded well.

No, I think he is doing sawdust/manure or sawdust/manure/compost IIRC. I'm sure he will chime in.
I have a ton of HWFP I was using for gourmets and wood-lovers. I should really give them a try for pans.
Over the last two days I prepped and pasteurized a good bit of sub for the spawn jars that have matured (Alabama clone, Texas MS, and Cambo MS). This time I went with coir/manure and a handful of straw. The straw amount isn't enough to effect the texture of the sub - I more put it in there just to see if there is a difference between coir/manure and coir/straw/manure - like do the pans really want some nutrients in the straw? I really sifted and picked through the chopped straw I put into the sub in order to remove all the seeds but after hydration and pasteurization, I still had seeds in there. Drives me nuts.

I do shit + sawdust, around 50/50. However pelletized shit is not ideal, I recommend some natural stuff.

Hey CS, happy to see you back!
My Cyan culture is currently pinning - probably the slowest of any Cyans I've had. It's been probably a week or more since casing, and Im seeing exactly 1 pin. Oh well, not losing hope just yet.

Looking good JOC - How deep are those subs? In the one pic it looks like it might be 2.5-3" deep.
