Nice, hindsight. Looking forward to hearing your experience
Yeah I've read that pans really like to keep moving. Unlike cubes where you can pause at many steps along the process and still have great results
But with clones, I don't see a way around treating them just like cubes. This is something I've wondered about since getting into pans. I haven't read anything about how people are storing there clones short and long term.
My plan is to transfer once from these clone plates, then slant and inoculate LC, store the LC in the fridge until I test the clone. Then load up a bunch of syringes for storage if it's worth keeping

My slants from 6 months ago were not viable. Never seen that with other species. My plates never came back with the vigor they were suppose to either. Meh, spores are easy and they truck at least. Seems like MS is the way to go. Or just keep it moving and always change your media.
Manure tea in agar is my favorite.
Moving onto T1's with Wild Coast. Really excited for more pans.

I'm thinking about cultivation with MacMerdin Pancake's (without BRF). I want to pasteurize cakes. What should I do with straws? Do you recommended pre-pasteurization?
I have done several runs this year where I cold pasteurized the straw with lime. Then made up the sub with the straw and did a "lazy pasteurization" (an idea I got from cron) where I just bring the sub up to pressure in the PC and then turn it off. As bad of a practice as it sounds, it's worked well for me. All my bags grow out at double speed, but the issue is fruiting time seems to double (10 days vs. 5) and flushes come in staggered. Still pulling in the weight overall which is usually 28g dry per tray. And had some personal record setting 11g fruits in these grows.

Baba Yaga said: What agar recipe was it that you used?
Sorry just saw this. For the plates that look weird in the photo, I was trying out the LME + Peptone + Yeast + Potato Starch recipe. Compared to plain old GWA (grain water agar), it seems to produce much denser, more solid-white growth that grows out faster initially, but then quickly slows down after reaching about an inch diameter and then it seems to stall at some point while also doing some really strange stuff. I'm going to try running some tests by taking the same culture from the same plate on the same day and doing some transfers to MYPA, GWA, and GWYA plates to see how they all compare.
Here are some examples of what I am seeing from basically all my pan varieties on the LME+Peptone+Yeast+Potato agar.
It usually starts out like this, which looks a little odd but not too bad:

Then it turns into what these two plates look like and won't grow out any further, or grows extremely slowly after reaching about this size:

If left long enough, it often ends up looking like this:

And I also see strange things like this, which I thought might be contams but now I think it's just how the mycelium reacts to this formula:

Compare that to the growth on plain old grain water agar:

It is also possible I did something wrong when making the LME+Peptone+Yeast+Potato plates - or wrote the formula down wrong. An some of these plates could be contaminated and it is no fault of the agar formula, but I took some transfers from some funky looking plates and put them to GWA and they grew out like the last two photos, leading me to believe they are not contaminated.

Something must definitely be sketchy with that formula. That's why I love to keep things simple. GWA for everything.

Well that formula is one of JOC's and he knows 100x better than me, so again, either I followed the recipe wrong or there is something else going on. The tests I mention above should help me figure that out. I'm also putting some plates to grain today and plan to prepare my grains for a couple jars in a manure tea to see if that helps grain jars colonize better for me. I'll post my results.

savan you gotta stop deleting your posts!
You can grow without BRF, myself others have grown pans on a 50/50 mix of straw and manure.
However, I can't think of any tek that doesn't require you to sterilize your spawn.

Just cased some Peace River FL today with 50/50+. I made these little Pancake jars using Asura's recipe and inoculated them each with 15ml of LC. Been I while since I've grown Pans, to my eye it's looking pretty good so far!

Nice idea, since you followed Asura’s recipe, I take it you have grains mixed with the substrate? Did you also sterilize the substrate in those pancake jars and keep it sterile until full colonization?

I’m curious about this as well - I feel like I have read pans don’t store well in the fridge - unlike cubes. There doesn’t seem to be much written about it though. I just inoculated a slant today with a pan clone, and I have LC jars grown out that I will try storing as well - all of it in a fridge. I’ll test after 1 week, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months and report back here .
This september i used a pan cambo LC to do some trays and 2 tubs. The LC was made in February and stored in the fridge since then, so like 6-7 months of fridge storing, i only took them out once for 3-4 days and put them back in. The mycelium colonized without a problem, as fast as at the beginning, the only downside is that the majority of the mushrooms were dwarfs, but this should be genetic and shouldn't have anything to do with the fridge storing. Also the LC had no GE hole, i just used a filtered syringe to change the air once every 3-4 months or so, i don't know if this influenced storing in any way tho. I just rememebered that i have to do this again with my cultures.
So it's doable, maybe my fridge is not cold enough to kill it as i've heard people say fridge killed their pans.

Yup! Exactly. I left the lids slightly unscrewed for gas exchange. It's a bit of an experiment to see if I can cut out the extra step of crumbling them into trays. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out, other than I would have liked for the surface to be a bit flatter.
