What wattage aquarium heater do you guys use in your JCM FC’s? I had one laying around which was a 100w so I have that in one, but I need to get a second and I’m wondering if I can get away with a lower wattage unit. The tubs I’m using are 66qt purple handle Sterilites.
In other news, here is a little supplemented sub container I inoculated with an adhoc Nec-D liquid inoculant. I squirted some sterile water into a petri mixed it up and poured that on top. I knocked it up yesterday afternoon, so its taking off like crazy.

100W is enough to heat up 100L of water so you could definitely go lower. I use 50W ones.

Fuck yes Jake _________________
My Wild Coast gave me 25g fresh from a whole quart of spawn

It seems like it dried out which is weird because my hygrometer has stayed at 100% the whole time. I turned my aquarium heater back on which I'm hoping will keep things more wet and give me a full 2nd flush.

Doobsker, are you going to clone those fatties?! They look great! I'm wishing you prolific additional flushes.

Nope I haven’t tried cloning any pans yet. I’m really just wanting to dial in the growing conditions and learn the species better before I start clone hunting

Gotcha. It looks like you are getting them dialed in, even though you aren't satisfied with the yield. Your fruits look fantastic, and I'm sure you will get bigger pinsets and higher yields in no time. For me, cloning helped accomplish that, but it did take me some practice before I succeeded. Cheers!

Well thanks for the words of encouragement ruawakeyet Maybe I'll try for some clones on my next run. Gonna put some NecD to agar pretty soon.
Thanks guerrilla it's printed canvas of a sheet of acid made for a Jerry Garcia concert. That's what I was told when I bought it at least haha

Was away for a couple days and came back to some good progress but hoping I can get some answers to a few questions I have too.
The outdoor night temps warmed up into the low 60's a bit and that appears to have caused my outdoor bed to start growing again. The fruits look a bit different - darker brown now and some of them are much larger than earlier ones. Looking at these got me wondering: How does anyone ID pans growing outside (without a microscope to look at spores) since they look just like any of 10,000 other Little Brown Mushrooms?

A few days ago I took T1s of many of my MS plates I knocked up a week or so ago. I'm noticing two types of mycelium patterns in these. The first one below is what I'm used to seeing for pan mycelium but the second one is new to me. Is the mycelium on the second plate normal and suggesting healthy pan mycelium?

And my indoor tent grow seems to be moving along. My oldest tray that I thought I killed with too much hydrated lime in the casing layer appears to be forming pins, but they are...... upside down?!

Here are my two recent trays I think I did right (proper casing lime and strong growth). You can see a lot of aerial mycelium growth coming up through the casing. I think this tray looks really good but wanted to see what you guys thought? The casing looks and feels damp to the touch but you can see no water pooling, and no drying of the casing:

This second tray has what appears to be metabolites? I'm asking for two reasons: One - I am trying to be sure I have my humidifier/venting cycles right and am not overhydrating these with humidity, and Two - wondering if metabolites like this are normal in a pan grow and if not, what could cause them? Previously when I was dumping too much humidity into the tent, I saw some slight water pooling in another tray and the water pooling was very flat - whereas on this tray the water isn't flat/pooling and it looks more round and dark like metabolites - you can see more of them toward the center of the tray where it's out of focus. Any input on this is appreciated.

Very interesting how your outdoor Pans turned brown! Never seen that before.
Also, that second plate is cactus.

It's an Australian (I think?) way to say something's dead/broken. Closer equivalent would be "that thing's toast".

Hahaha ah ok - that is one I had not heard before.
Do you have any idea what's growing on that plate? I ask because I did MS germinations of several different pan varieties and a handful of them ended up looking like this - all from different prints too.

My guess would be that just underneath the myc is an obnoxious mold that's killing it (hencewhy the empty/liquidy spots).

got the same dark drops with some trays of actual grow, less than you have but exactly the same type. grow on the way, don't see any problems because of that.
