Hi Kevin,
Please note that this is the Pan thread, not Cubensis.
Please post in an appropriate thread, but those are looking good.
Hope to see you in here if you jump into Pans!
Peace!

Guys, I am busy with my very first pan project. I got 6 dishes that show even growth patterns, but for some reason the mycelium seem to have stopped growing along the way. I didn't change the temperature or something. Has that ever happened to one of you out there?

My recipe for agar is as follows 16g oat flower 16g agar agar 1000ml water I use this recipe for everything from Oysters to cubs to Cordyceps

They are of Oz's, Blue springs & Wild Coast
Up side here is a clone of a petri pin

And here is a good looking wild coast

Could someone have a look at this please Thanks

To me they look super contaminated, but not likely if they fruit well.
I've never heard of oat flour for nutrients, is that common for edibles and gourmets? I use lme and that's what I've seen most commonly used on this forum

My agar recipe is quite simple :
11gram agar powder 7gram Malted Barley 500ml water
Do pans need something else in the mix? My germ plates are covered completely by now. It's just the transfers that seemed to have stalled.

Geinstein those look contaminated to me too. Though some of the pics look worse than they might be because of the side lighting casting shadows and also the condensation distorting things. The mycelium does look a bit odd - really dense and solid as opposed to thin and wispy which is more typical of pans. I’d try a different formula.
Fridgedoor - Is malted barley the same thing as light malt extract? I have had the same issue with you on pans stalling out. Never happens to all my plates - just some of them sometimes. From everything I’ve read here, people say pans are just more finicky and prone to randomly stalling out on grains or plates for unexplained reasons and it’s just part of growing them, which is why you never do 1 of anything. But all 6 stalling would suggest another issue. I’ve done agar with just grain water, with grain water plus peptone, and grain water plus peptone plus light malt extra plus potato starch (JOCs formula). I’ve found pans REALLY benefit from peptone and grow fastest and most consistent on it. Just grain water and just LME are hit or miss.
For grain water agar with peptone I do: 300ml grain water 700ml water 1g peptone 1g yeast extract 18g agar
This has worked well for me in my limited experience with pans and I don't get too many stalls on them. I also get plenty of plates pinning on this.
This is JOC's formula that I just started trying. It's too early for me to give much feedback on it but I do have a T2 on one of these now that seems to be going fast and has already reached the size of a quarter after just 48 hours: 1000ml water 5g peptone 4g LME 4g potato starch pinch of yeast extract 18g agar

Thanks Hindsight! I think Malted Barley and light malt extract very similar but not exactly the same. A quick search didn't come up with an answer though.
I am not sure if the growth completely stalled or whether growth just slowed down. I will keep an eye on them and if it doesn't grow any further I will transfer them to some new plates using your recipe.

Those of you who use JCM FCs, do you find the condensation on the lid to be an issue at all? I currently have my bubblers and heater set up in a Pasty mono with 1/4" holes drilled in it. The lid doesn't have any holes and there is *a lot* of condensation dripping off the lid. I can only imagine this would flood the trays. Is it less of a problem with a lid that is covered in holes?
Otherwise it seems to be working perfectly! Holding the temps in the low 80s and the RH right about 95%.

The consensus says once you have trays in your JCM FC, the condensation on the lid isn't enough to cause problems unless your room is too cold. A JCM FC also calls for holes in the lid.

Ok great, I won't worry about it then. I know about the holes but I was gonna test and see if it would work by just offsetting the lid or putting in spacers instead of drilling it with holes. I'd still like to use these bins as monos in the future so if I don't have to mod them I won't.

Hi guys. Just wanted to ask how this tub looks. Pan Cyan spore print to LC. Injected LC into WBS jars and spawned to a horse manure, straw and verm tub. Been colonizing for 10 days. Going to case tonight

I’ve never used that sub mix so I’m not sure but ten days seems like enough to be done.
I would case and go right to fruiting.

I second that. Case it and go straight to fruiting.
I'm just guessing here, but if that print was one of Jake's, his prints are super clean from what I've seen.

Good evening pan gang.
So my last attempt at pans the myc stalled out on me in the jars. It’s taken me an age to get my act together again but this plate is first transfer from germination (it’s the same plate both pictures) I’ve been told to look for ‘light and whispy’ mycelium. Now to me it all looks ‘light and whispy’
What are you seasoned pan heads thinking about these then? I’m thinking another transfer then put to grain.

Bottom colony looks a bit different, is that just the lighting?
Apart from that they are all looking alright to transfer from, I would take two to three transfers from each and see where this gets you.
