Yeah honestly I would have given up on pans had I not built this exterior venting setup. There is no way you could have this stench in your living space and not gag in every corner of your house. As is, I keep the zip-lock bags inside a storage tote and keep those in the bottom of my martha so the stench is contained in there and is routinely drawn out by the fan every time it cycles. It's ironic that I'm using a fart fan in the martha because it's literally doing what the manufacturer actually intended it to do

How about for pan jams, wavy caps and cambos? G2G to the appropriate substrate mix?
Just playing around here with some jars. Made these with a little bit of substrate inoculated with LC. Got horse manure, straw, coir and wheat bran in there. Noced up 8 jars with 4 different LCs of pan cambo. Once fully colonized and consolidated I'm planning to case with something contam resistant and will leave the lid on loose. Maybe 50/50 coir verm or even 100% verm, verm worked for me in the past and this is just for fun, so there won't be any long faces if it doesn't work out .

Great stuff dude thank you. Hope it works out for you, and I hope I get to see the results somewhere!

These are what I mean with weird growth, they fruit fine for me but they look like crap.
My recipe for agar is as follows 16g oat flower 16g agar agar 1000ml water I use this recipe for everything from Oysters to cubs to Cordyceps

They are of Oz's, Blue springs & Wild Coast
Up side here is a clone of a petri pin

And here is a good looking wild coast

How do you all feel about using rye grass seed (lawn seed) as a substrate supplement? I was considering following Asura's recipe of 80% HPoo, 10% Straw, 10% Verm plus ~9% of the base subs weight in rye grass seed for supplementation instead of grain (I would be using oats otherwise). I would then inoculate with LC.

Honestly, I wasn't too impressed with rye grass when I ran some experiments way back. If I don't have any rye berries or milo on hand, I usually just grab a bag of WBS from the grocery store. My colander filters out the millet from it perfectly

Alright! Good to know. I'll stick with the grain then. How do you feel about oats?

Seems like that's the mood around here. Time to pick up some milo!

What do you like about milo vs millet? Asking because I’ve been very focused on working with many different grain types lately to see what works best for me. All I really have experience with is oats and while I’ve had a lot of success with them, I’ve had a lot of inconsistent, unexplainable results with them too, even with the same clone.

I've seen mycelium not consolidate the millet in WBS like it does the milo. Perhaps it was immature millet, or maybe the shell was too hard. It didn't really hurt anything from my observation, but I question if it contributed anything at all.
Plain milo is becoming my new favorite grain, considering it's availability and cost, ease of preparation, size of grain, and speed of colonization.

Millet definitely looks weird but it’s still colonized. I think the shells are too hard for the myc go get really thick over.

Milo is just about availability for me. It's what the feed store has. I would take rye all day long if I could get it. I only use millet when I run out of milo and I get too lazy to drive across town.

Got it thank you. I picked up a bag of it today at the local feed and seed. It was cheaper than WBS and probably cleaner - will have to pick less stuff out of it. I have the same issue with rye - I can get hulled rye at the health foods store but obviously not cheap - not the same as getting it from a feed store.
Going to be a busy day for me. All my prints and swabs have come in. Going to be knocking up plates today with: Goliath Huasteca BVI Rainbow Eucalyptus Subtropicalis Alabama and NecD
And it looks like I finally have a tray that's colonizing rapidly and healthy. I think the issue was with the straw I was previously using. It was more like hay than straw.

I think cause they harbor a lot of bacteria. But I'm not 100% sure. They have been my grain of choice of late. But I have noticed more bacterial infections than I'd like.

They are cheap, readily available, hold good amounts of water, are easy to prep, and contain a lot of energy but some people seem to have inconsistent or bad results with them. I've grown plenty of cubes on them and they work ok but I get a lot of unexplained variability. My sterile technique appears very good judging from things other than grains, so I'm trying out other grains in order to determine if it's the oats or my technique or something else.
