Hey Pan crew! Can I get some thoughts on these plates? It's been a while (10 years) since I've grown Pans and I'm not sure what type of mycelium I should be selecting for.

I don't have much pan experience under my belt, but I can say the last plate is what you don't wanna look for. IME, cultures like that have a hard time even colonizing grain.

There's a lot of good looking growth there though. Hopefully some of these vets chime in, but the bigger 2 in that first plate look perfect to me. That's exactly what I look for when selecting cultures

I'm just starting my pan journey and have made 1 transfer from spore print of pan cyan var texas. I'm looking forward to the challenge of growing something other than cubes.

Top 2 in first plate. 4th plate. Both good. Not sure about the rest though.

You want to select the fastest growth and most of my best pan cultures appear very light and whispy. The first pic in the second row most resembles what I look for

Thanks Jake and the rest of you who responded! Is it even worth sending the rest to grain/LC? I could go back to the germ plates and see if I can grab something better... Or make new germ plates.

My plan is to do a pan-cake style grow in a JCM FC to test growth and fruiting characteristics before going big with any one type.

To clarify, which culture name does it say on it? Are you viewing on mobile or on a computer? I just realized the culture rows are different depending...

It says “Jambo pan cyan (it’s actually pan cam) T1”

Here is some pan cyan Jalisco I’m about to print

Good to know, Jake. So between those 3 cultures, would you rather go for the thicker growth or the lighter one on the bottom?

Right on. I would have gone for the thicker growth. I'm still learning.

Thanks for taking the time to clarify

Does your pasteurized manure/straw substrate smell pretty awful after you age it for 5-10 days and open the bag? Mine smells like a sewer - has that sulfur smell to it. Definitely did not smell like that prior to pasteurizing/aging.

Wanna start a few invitro grows for clean prints..

Cubes on grass seed with bottom watering..

How about for pan jams, wavy caps and cambos? G2G to the appropriate substrate mix?
