Pan thread on page 3? Not on my watch!

NecD pot I just harvested, fuzzy feet galore, not sure whether my pump is dying or maybe my airstones are clogged but they look like they weren't getting the FAE they wanted.
Got two fruit with red gills though which is cool.

Look forward to having a bit more time to sit down and grow some more out.

You’re killing it with those cakes.

I wonder if choking pans a tiny bit so they grow taller will increase yield kinda like with tamps. Those look healthy to me just taller than normal and a little fuzz at the bottom.

Thanks guys!

The cakes are just perfect for me as small grows suit me on multiple levels!

Going to have to restock on manure for the winter so I can work on nailing down a couple of the prints that have caused me trouble.

Its odd though, looking back at my other grows, it is only NecD that has gotten such bad fuzzy feet.

I don't have experience with pans yet but on cubes, I have found this to be genetic. Certain varieties always have fuzzy feet when grown in the exact same conditions as other varieties that don't end up having fuzzy feet. I assume it's the same with pans but that's just my guess.

Great looking grow! I too subscribe to the "many small grows" method.

Yeah I’ve noticed some of my pans have wide fuzzy bases especially the little part under the casing.

Beautiful Nec D grow, coversall

I just came across these photos the other day of my Nec D attempt a few months back. I cased right at full colonization, and I assume that's why I got such bad overlay.

And here is some Wild Coast that I'll be casing tomorrow

Are guys also letting your casing consolidate at all?

No but usually you gotta let the sub consolidate for a few days and then case, otherwise it’ll eat the casing.

Yeah that is what happened with my Nec D tray.

I think I'll let this tray sit another day then. Full colonization was about a day and a half ago

Asking the pros on here what they normally look for when cloning these guys?

With cubes I normally look for cluster first weight second and weight per cm third

But I don't have enough experience with pans to know what's good to clone and what's not

Lastly on clones, would you say cloning petri pins are a good idea?

And then I seem to not get even growth when doing high nutrient petris like I do with cubs
Should I rather do low nutrient petris?

I've already done some fresh new spores to high nutrient Petri's so waiting on that.

Oh one more thing, just wandering I have both but thinking about future projects, what more important a fan or a humidifier.
Like if you to chose between one or the other?

Thanks and sorry for all the questions

To be honest I'm not sure there is a ton of difference in trait selection. The one clone I've managed made a world of difference with my pan cyan BVI grow, the first fruit were tiny, and the clone produced fruit all pretty much from the base of my palm to be finger tips. A huge improvement.

I've yet to get a pin on any of my pan plates as I'm moving everything along quicker then that.

When you say 'high nutrient' how high are we talking? I have been using the standard mix of 10g LME, 10g agar, 500ml water for everything and get some nice looking plates:
Pan cyan texas:

Pan jambo (left hand side):

Both these got put to LCs and fruited nicely in the end, for what that info is worth.

It's hard to comment on the fan vs humidifier question as I have no idea what sort of FC you are trying to build. What are your limits FC wise?

Fan or humidifier depends on your climate but for most people I think it’ll be humidifier.

If you live somewhere super humid then it would be a fan.

They’re both pretty important actually, it can be tough to get enough fae/evaporation without a fan.

I'm just starting my pan journey and haven't fruited yet because I'm stuck working on substrate issues that I think I have finally resolved, but I wanted to comment on cloning petri pins. I was surprised how quickly this pan variety I've been working with pins in my petris - everyone puts a lot of focus on the delicate growing conditions for pans so I was shocked to see pins in my plates, and in under 30 days from the transfer. I pulled some of the pins and cloned them successfully and have been working with those clone transfers for the last month or so. Hoping to fruit them very soon - my first batch of jars are just about ready with more coming.

Here are some pics of two plates - one with a bunch of pins and one with pre-pins - note how many there are!

This variety is "Gulf Coast Florida". Aside from the rapid petri pinning, I can't say much more about it since I haven't fruited it yet and since I haven't worked with any other pan varieties. I will say the mycelium doesn't grow very fast on my oats, but it goes pretty fast on plates of grain water agar. In order to rule out the oats, I have 4x more jars of WBS inoculated with agar wedges, and in a couple more days will do G2G from my oats to 4x jars of 75% WBS and 25% rye berries.

Are you using low nutrients in your agar and is that grain soak from your oats? That is pretty good pinning there and also
super wispy growth, looks very nice.

Yeah I don't know some people say that cambodginiensis are the best pinners and they're all I use atm but I never had pins on
my plates and Gulf Coast Florida are cyans right? Looks like genetics are playing charades with us once again.

For some reason pans are going slow on my oats as well, they are super clean but it takes the mycel a while to get through
the jar once the oats hit the bulk sub though they are colonizing it like normal. The grain prep method doesn't seem to have
an effect as I have tried a few.

Yes BabaYaga, the gulf coast florida are pan cyans. And yes the plates are simply the water drained off from boiling oats for 30 minutes during oat prep, but I only use 30% grain water - the remaining 70% is just filtered water. I did add half a gram of peptone into one batch of plates but I'm not sure if it was on these or not. I'm making a batch tonight of JOC's agar recipe to see how it compares to my grain water plates.

These are 2 plates that are 4 days old (and are from a clone taken from a petri pin):
