Those look incredible Jake. Hope I'm able to get a flush like that one day.
My trays just didn't look right so I put them all outside today to see if I get any outdoor growth from them.
Tossed all but two of my oat jars too - well, I dumped the oats on the dirt outside, covered with horse manure, and covered that with a layer of straw to see if I can get any growth with them that way.
I'm switching from oats to WBS to see if I have better luck when going to substrate. Oats were fine for cubes but just aren't doing well for me with pans. I also found a new source for straw and what I received looks a LOT cleaner, dryer, and more consistent than the bales I was buying locally, which I'm hoping will translate to a good grow.
Lastly, I have 4 varieties of pan swabs coming, including NecD. Maybe the genetics I'm working with suck, though it does pin in the petri dish which I feel is pretty crazy for a pan. Fingers crossed for the WBS grow.
Do you guys know if any vendors carry any of the Alabama strains?

Yeah Rych has all my strains but he doesn’t have them all listed yet but if you email him and ask him what he has in stock from my collection he will set you up he has been procrastinating sitting down at his computer and getting all my shit listed lol

Here are pics of the trays I gave up on and put outside. The myc was just very slow, overly thin IMHO and also dark in color. Note that most of these trays were using manure and rehydrated straw pellets. Only two of the trays were cased.

This is my oat jar that is looking pretty good. The mycelium is much denser and whiter than the really faint whispy stuff that had been growing before:

But yeah that’s another reason why I prefer to work with pans and exotics because with cubes you can put in all this time and effort creating a strain and then the second you release the genetics everyone who buys it can grow them out print them and resell your work and you won’t see a dime for your efforts after your original sale but with pans and exotics there is no one else out there that can supply the vendors with hundreds Of Prints of each strain a month So all of the prints they sell come directly from me, I don’t have the time to do individual sales so I unload them in bulk to vendors they do all the foot work I get the credit and we both make $

So I went to the local horse grounds and picked up a couple bags of horse poo. Most of it seemed dry with some wet. Im thinking a couple more weeks outside. I have neighbours everywhere. Im partly worried what the neighbors think and the wild turkeys and cats coming around pissing and shitting on my hpoo. any tips?

Yeah I agree. It's funny because my trays with straw and manure are the ones that look the worst. I'm going to try this new organic straw I got that looks nice and clean and super dry, and instead of using a sous vide to pasteurize (which worked well by the numbers), I'm just going to do it exactly like JOC does, using my rice cooker overnight, though I may use vacuum bags inside it instead of 2 gallon zip lock bags but that shouldn't change anything. I'm determined to get some pans!
PhosCap, I wouldn't worry about neighbors. Most people will assume you have it for the garden. If asked, I'd just say I got it for fertilizing the garden and just haven't gotten around to spreading it yet. I have a worse issue right now - I have vented my martha to the outside just like JOC does, and I used a proper external home dryer vent hood with flap so it looks just like a dryer vent or bathroom vent on the side of the house. Only issue is that you can see the water vapor coming out of it!!! So I have this vent on the side of the house that spews steam for 3 minutes, every 10 minutes, 24x7. Try explaining that to the neighbors..... "I uh, installed a sauna and steam room in my house and that's the vent for the steam room"

Highsight, proper pasteurization is key. I really need to move over to a bulk method but currently ive been using jcm's method of in jars on the stove. making sure water levels are in the mid of the jar and heating up to 160-170F for 90-120min, and reheating if need be. I haven't had one issue. There is a little baby sitting for the first couple times doing it. As per the worrying, now im worried more because right now im rigging up a joc martha and I didn't realize about the ventage of the humidity. I need to push it outside next to the well trafficked road.

Nice progress y'all. Jake, those canopies are out of control! I've been working with Pan. cyan "var. FL", and I'm digging the phenotypes so far. But what really strikes me is the ridiculous staining on these guys. After a few minutes, looks like someone colored it with a black sharpie. I also get deep blue staining when I cut a wedge out on an agar plate:

Vinci said: I've always preferred pans to cubes but I took a few at burning man and felt really annoyed and upset for no other reason. A couple homies also took them and felt the same way. Maybe it was the wrong environment, The mushrooms also were pretty damp and could've looked fresher/nicer when picked. Maybe my sogginess was the issue. Anyone have insight/ experience with some iffy mushrooms or pans? Love
Bruh.. never eat damp shrooms. There's your problem, they could have been moldy already from improper storage.
Nah brotha they were properly dried and stored, just particularly wet when picked

Pans are ALWAYS "particularly wet when picked".
If they were properly dried and stored, they would not have been damp.

I pasteurised some hydrated sawdust in the oven for some oysters and shiitakes I’ve been growing, so far so good, been about 2 weeks and no signs of contam. I could never get on with stove top pasteurisation. Once I get some pan spawn ready im gonna try the same method with a manure based recipe

What kind of settings does your stove have? I assume you don't like stovetop pasteurization due to the difficulty of maintaining the temperature without overshooting?
I've been using a slow cooker to pasteurize, which is easy and foolproof, but the capacity leaves a lot to be desired. A stove that holds the right temperature would be a huge gain in volume, and I'm considering getting one soon. I've even thought about trying to use my dehydrator, which maxes out at 155 degrees F.

I just find it easier to bring it up gradually in the oven, I have a gas stove. Plus a have a giant turkey tin type thing that can easily hold 2kg of substrate, can’t be arsed stuffing sub into jars, if I got a thinner one I could probably get away with 3 tins at a time and do 6kg of sub
Don’t think I’d trust my dehydrator although it’s big and could get a fair whack in in I’m not sure how accurate the thermostat is on it.
Eatyoualive done this inspiring thread which is basically the way I did it.
